Three Southampton players Russell Martin could sign at Leicester City including Jamie Vardy replacement

Russell Martin has been linked to the Leicester City job amid growing reports Ruud van Nistelrooy will leave.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has endured a tough stint at Leicester City, which has seen the Foxes suffer relegation.

Van Nistelrooy made a presentation to the club’s board recently regarding his future, but it looks set to be away from the King Power Stadium.

The latest reports suggest that the Dutchman will leave after the Premier League season has come to a close, with Russell Martin considered for the role along with Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl.

With this in mind, we have taken a look at three Southampton players Martin, whose most recent role was with the Saints, could bring to Leicester.

Cameron Archer

Jamie Vardy is leaving Leicester at the end of his current contract, which expires on June 30.

It will leave the Foxes with a big gap to plug at the top of the pitch, and Cameron Archer could be a great option.

He has struggled to perform in the Premier League, but he has enjoyed some prolific spells in the Championship, including when he scored 11 and assisted six in 23 games while on loan at Middlesbrough in 2023/24.

Archer is unlikely to be cheap, but Leicester’s financial situation is helped out by parachute payments.

Aaron Ramsdale

Mads Hermansen is among the players who could leave Leicester in the 2025 summer transfer window.

The goalkeeper has had transfer interest from the likes of Manchester United, as per the Telegraph, and could fetch a sizeable fee.

In turn, Martin may wish to make a move for Aaron Ramsdale, who has a plethora of Premier League experience and though he struggled in 2024/25, has performed well at the likes of Arsenal previously.

Nathan Wood

It’s fair to say that Leicester’s backline needs a lot of work done to it this summer.

Jannik Vestergaard and Conor Coady are getting on and have put in some questionable performances throughout the season.

As a result, targeting 22-year-old Nathan Wood could be a good long-term investment for the Foxes.

Wood only played 10 Premier League games this season but he’s shone in the second tier with both Swansea City and Middlesbrough previously.
