Exclusive: Huddersfield Town backed to seal “absolutely spot on signing” from Stoke City
Huddersfield Town’s push for a promotion-contending squad under new head coach Lee Grant continues, with Stoke City striker Nathan Lowe emerging as a serious target.
Reports over the weekend suggested the Terriers were ready to test Stoke’s resolve with a £2.5 million bid, but new information now casts doubt over whether a deal will materialise.
Stoke unwilling to sell Lowe – for now
According to the Stoke Sentinel, the Potters are not willing to sell Lowe ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The 19-year-old is set to remain part of Mark Robins’ pre-season squad, with hopes of playing a greater role after being limited to just five starts in the second half of last season.
This development contradicts earlier claims from The Sun’s Alan Nixon, who reported that Huddersfield were close to matching Stoke’s £2.5 million valuation and were in talks over bonus-related terms.
While Huddersfield’s interest remains, it appears Lowe will be assessed during pre-season and is not currently available for sale or loan.
Lee Hendrie: Lowe would be a “spot on” signing for Town
Despite Stoke’s reluctance to part ways with the striker, Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie believes a move to the John Smith’s Stadium would suit all parties.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Hendrie was asked whether Lowe would be a good signing for the Terriers, and he responded with nothing but positivity when speaking about the forward.
“Huddersfield seem to be splashing the cash, looking at Nathan Lowe, who was outstanding at Walsall, he really showed his potential,” Hendrie told FLW.
“He proved that he could do it at League Two level, and he really was the difference maker for Walsall. I think Huddersfield would be a good fit for him. £2.5 million doesn’t seem like a lot of money, and Huddersfield will be among the favourites to get promoted with the business they are doing.”
He concluded by saying: “I think that it would be an absolutely spot on signing for them.”
Lowe’s breakout season at Walsall
The teenager caught fire during the first half of last season while on loan at League Two side Walsall, notching 18 goals and seven assists in 30 appearances for the Saddlers, before being recalled by Stoke in January.
His return failed to produce consistent minutes, with just 467 minutes of Championship football under his belt post-recall. However, the expectation is that under Robins’ stewardship, Lowe could play a more prominent role next term
Huddersfield’s ambitious window continues
Huddersfield’s summer business has already seen six players, including Ryan Ledson, Marcus Harness and Joe Low, with another striker still firmly on the wishlist. Lowe, viewed as a high-upside target, fits the profile.
