Bournemouth have secured the long-term future of Antoine Semenyo after tying him down to a new contract until June 2030.
The Ghana international moved to the Vitality Stadium from Bristol City in January 2023 and has become an integral member of the first team, registering 22 goals and 10 assists in 89 appearances across all competitions.
Semenyo had been linked with Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham after enjoying his best season in a Cherries shirt last term, bagging 11 goals in 37 Premier League games to help Andoni Iraola’s side equal their best-ever finish of ninth as they set a new record of points achieved (56).
However, the south-coast outfit have warded off potential interest from their top-flight rivals by handing the 25-year-old winger a new five-year deal.
“I’ve grown so much at the club, both on and off the pitch, and I’m really happy to have signed ahead of returning for pre-season,” Semenyo told the club’s official website.
“From the fans to the staff and my team-mates, I can’t speak highly enough of the people around the club. It’s a great place to be and I’m excited to get back to Bournemouth and continue the hard work with the new season just around the corner.”\
Bournemouth’s President of Football Operations, Tiago Pinto, added: “Antoine has been crucial to the club’s progress and is a key member of the project here at Vitality Stadium.
“We have a great relationship with Antoine and we’re looking forward to continuing that as we hope to build on a record-breaking season. His commitment to the club matches our ambition and I’m excited to see what can be achieved as we prepare for the new campaign.”
‘Squad player’ – USMNT star Josh Sargent gets Premier League transfer warning in ‘upgrade’ advice from former Leeds United & Norwich City defender
United States international Sargent has graced the English top-flight before, having joined Norwich City in 2021 when they were rubbing shoulders with the elite. He registered just two goals through 26 appearances at that level.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Sargent has, however, improved considerably as a player since then, with the 25-year-old frontman hitting 31 goals across his last two seasons at Carrow Road. He has become one of the most highly-respected forwards in the Championship.
