Juventus ready to sell Nicolás González to West Ham for ‘bargain’ fee
West Ham need to outsmart the market this summer, and could be presented with the opportunity to secure a bargain deal.
Graham Potter will aim to rebuild his squad on a limited budget as West Ham struggle with PSR issues, which means some key players may leave.
Mohammed Kudus could be one of those who departs to ease the financial situation at the London Stadium this summer, but West Ham will need to replace the winger.
His replacement could be Juventus star Nicolás González, amid a new development coming out of Italy.
West Ham interested in González as Juventus ready to sell
Argentina winger González joined Juventus last season after an excellent spell at Fiorentina, in which he provided an assist against West Ham in the UEFA Conference League final.
However, it has been a difficult season in Turin, and Juventus are prepared to sell several players to conduct a rebuild themselves.
As reported by Calciomercato (22 June), González is not deemed irreplaceable and could be allowed to leave Juventus for as little as £22million, a fee which has been described as a “bargain”.
Marseille, Brentford and West Ham have all been credited with an interest in the 27-year-old.
González could be ideal for West Ham
West Ham are operating on a limited budget, so securing a player of González’s pedigree for £22m would be a very positive step in the right direction.
González would arrive as an international star with plenty of experience in Serie A and Europe, and would help replace Kudus’ speed and goal threat.
The Argentinian is capable of playing on both wings, as well as through the middle, and has provided nine goals and assists in 35 appearances since joining Juventus.
González has appeared for Argentina 43 times, winning two Copa Americas, and could both provide cover for Jarrod Bowen while also playing alongside him.
If Kudus leaves for a significant fee, González could arrive as his replacement, while funds could be made available to strengthen other areas to help Potter for next season.
