Lewis Travis for Blackburn Rovers

Coventry City urged to make “shrewd signing” from Blackburn Rovers and make big Ben Sheaf decision

This article is part of Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Coventry City have joined the race for Blackburn Rovers captain Lewis Travis.

Football League World exclusively revealed the interest this week, as Frank Lampard looks to gear up for another push towards promotion from the Championship with the Sky Blues.

However, Coventry are stacked in the centre of the pitch, with the likes of Ben Sheaf, Matt Grimes, Jack Rudoni, Josh Eccles, Victor Torp and Jamie Allen to call upon.

Given the club appears to be looking to strengthen even further in this area, our Coventry Fan Pundit, Chris, believes the likes of Sheaf could make way, and provide the Sky Blues with some additional funds along the way.

Travis deal would allow Coventry to cash in on Sheaf

Speaking to Football League World, Chris said: “I like Lewis Travis, I think he’d be a very shrewd signing. He’s 27, I believe, so he’s the same age as Ben Sheaf.

“I think at the moment it’s safe to say that midfield is our strongest area. I think it would more than likely signal the end of Sheaf’s time at the club if we were to sign Travis.

“I think it’d be a really good signing. He’s obviously Blackburn captain, he’s been there many years. I think he’s played not far off 300 games for them.

“So, when you consider the fact that he’s still got a good seven or eight years, at least, on his career, £2m isn’t a huge amount of money. We paid more than that for Matt Grimes and he’s obviously a few years older, but that was an incredible signing.

“We’ve still got the likes of [Josh] Eccles on the bench and Jamie Allen as well. So, I’d be more than happy to cash in on Sheaf and bring in Travis.

“Sheaf, I think we’d do well at the moment to get maybe £5m-£7m for him after all of his injury problems, and how inconsistent he was when he came back from injury.

“I wish we’d have cashed in on him when there was Premier League interest, when Ipswich were after him. But, you know, you win some, you lose some.

“If we could get that £5m-£7m for Sheaf, reinvest £2m of it into Travis, that’s amazing business.”
