Aston Villa ‘check’ on Premier League winger who will cost £60m amid Newcastle interest
Aston Villa transfer latest as links with winger Anthony Elanga of Nottingham Forest re-emerge
Aston Villa have once more been credited with an interest in Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga this summer transfer window. The Swedish international joined Forest from Manchester United two years ago and last season was a key fixture in the side under Nuno Espirito Santo as they qualified for the Europa Conference League.
Elanga, 23, last season scored six goals and produced 12 assists in all competitions as Forest spent the majority of the campaign in the top four, only to fall out of the Champions League places – and indeed the Europa League spot Villa claimed – in the closing stages.
Because of his performances and contribution in the final third, though, Elanga supposedly has accumulated interest from the sides who finished above Forest last season, with talkSPORT claiming that both Villa and Newcastle United – who did finish in the top five despite defeat on the final day of the season – have made ‘checks’ on the winger.
Having cost Forest £15m when he joined from United in 2023, it’s said that the Reds want as much as four times what they paid for Elanga because of how he has established himself as a key member of a side which made great strides under Nuno last year, having previously been involved in two relegation battles.
Newcastle, despite their Champions League qualification, have suffered frustration so far in the window; target Joao Pedro is set to join Chelsea, while they were also keen on Bryan Mbeumo who is now more likely to join United if he leaves Brentford. The Magpies are, though, talking to Burnley about the signing of James Trafford.
