Paul Mullin may be allowed to leave Wrexham for free as League One side plot ambitious move
Wrexham could allow Paul Mullin to leave the club for free this summer, according to one journalist.
Paul Mullin has firmly cemented himself as a club icon since his free transfer from Cambridge United in 2021.
The striker has over 100 goals to his name since arriving in Wales, but he lost his place in the squad after the January arrivals of Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez.
Mullin last featured in the league for Wrexham back on January 28 in a 3-2 defeat to Stevenage.
Speculation over the Wrexham striker’s future has been circulating in the last few months, and now a transfer update has emerged.

Wrexham will let Paul Mullin leave as Wigan Athletic eye move
Mullin and Ollie Palmer had transfer interest in the 2025 winter transfer window but remained at the Racecourse.
Now, an update from Alan Nixon via his Patreon suggests that Wrexham are ready to part ways with the 30-year-old.
He is under contract until the summer of 2027, but Nixon claims the centre-forward could be allowed to go for free in order to make a transfer easier due to his wages.
It’s claimed that League One side Wigan Athletic are the team looking to put together a deal for Mullin, who is allowed to leave Wrexham.

What has Phil Parkinson said about Paul Mullin
Phil Parkinson has commented on Mullin and Palmer recently, following both players losing their place in the matchday squad over the last few months.
He said: “First of all, everyone’s made a contribution. What level that has been doesn’t matter because everybody’s been together and contributed.
“Of course there’s always players who would have liked to have played more. Equally, contributions can come in many forms, so I’m delighted with everybody as a group.
“Mulls and Ollie will always be legends at this club for what they’ve done. They’re under contract next year and they’ll be back in pre-season ready to go again.”
Wrexham’s 2025 pre-season will begin in Australia on July 11 until July 19, with more friendlies planned upon their return to the UK.
The days of League One football at Bramall Lane are long gone, but a number of players who represented the Blades in the third tier are still playing.
Howard is among them and has won three consecutive promotions since his move to Wrexham in 2022.
Wrexham fans won’t like which football club Rob McElhenney says he finds really ‘inspiring’
Wrexham have set an example for teams in England following three-straight promotions. But co-owner Rob McElhenney appears to have taken inspiration from a certain rival.
Wrexham have been promoted to the Championship in what is a historic third-straight promotion under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
However, the 38-year-old will not be following the Red Dragons into the Championship. The club have confirmed his contract has not been extended and he will be seeking pastures new.
Wrexham cut ties with former Sheffield United and Blackpool goalkeeper as retained list published
Via Instagram, the former Blackpool stopper said: “From the moment I pulled on the Wrexham shirt, I have tried to bring professionalism, passion, and personality to the club.
“As I reflect on what an incredible journey it’s been, I consider myself fortunate to have shared a dressing room with the best teammates. Everyday I have left with a smile on my face wanting to come back and do it all over again. Love you boys.
“Being able to say I’m the only goalkeeper ever to do the 3peat. Back2Back2Back. I say tongue in cheek. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities I’ve had here. Working alongside some of the most amazing staff on and off the pitch, giving me the encouragement to do more, I cannot thank you enough.

“The connection with the fans was tough at times but now I feel part of the family, I would like to think you’ve all grown to love me.
“At this stage I still feel like I have more football in me, so it’s not retirement yet, I still want to dive around while my body lets me. Finally a huge thank you to these two amazing people – Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds (co-owners).”
Hollywood tribute
In response to Howard’s farewell message, Wrexham co-owner and acting star McElhenney said: “No words will suffice but I’ll try…You were all always there when needed.
