Tottenham Hotspur Identify This Southampton Ace As A Target: What Will He Bring To North London
In a recent report, The Guardian revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have identified Southampton ace Yoanne Wissa as a target. It has been mentioned that Spurs are eyeing a move to bring the Congolese forward to North London this summer.
Wissa’s Impressive Record In The Premier League
Wissa had a productive campaign at the English club as he was responsible for producing a lot of impressive performances for them in the final third. The Congolese talent banged in 20 goals and picked up five assists in 39 appearances for the Saints last season in various competitions.
The 28-year-old led the line well for Southampton after he attempted 2.77 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He kept 45.6% of his attempts on target. Wissa has also been tidy when distributing the ball in the opposition half based on his pass success rate of 76.5% in top-flight football (stats via fbref.com).
Wissa is under contract at the English club until the end of next season which could open the door for Tottenham to sign him on a cut-price deal this summer.
What Will Wissa Bring To Tottenham Hotspur?
Wissa can find some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has proven himself to be a decent finisher up top and can also create the odd chance for his teammates to find the back of the net.
The Congolese talent is also quite clever with his movements in and around the opposition penalty area. Wissa is primarily a centre-forward but can also play as a winger if needed. He is quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Tottenham.
Wissa would bring more goals to Spurs boss Thomas Frank’s attack. He has what it takes to compete with Dominic Solanke for a regular starting place at the North London club next season.
At 28, Wissa is playing in his prime which makes him a worthy target for Tottenham to consider in this summer transfer window. He would also help the London outfit compete across all fronts over the next few seasons. Thus, Frank would be wise to try everything in his power to get a deal done for Wissa soon.
