Stefan Borson 'surprised' after high-profile Everton exits confirmed

‘Everton ready to agree multiple new deals’ – Stefan Borson

Everton are facing several big decisions over the coming weeks as multiple first-team players are out of contract this summer.

David Moyes’s side currently sit 14th in the Premier League table after he’s guided them to safety since replacing Sean Dyche in January.

However, the Scottish manager could be working with a completely different squad next season.

Asmir Begovic, Joao Virginia, Seamus Coleman, Ashley Young, Michael Keane, Mason Holgate, Idrissa Gueye, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Neal Maupay are all out of contract on 30 June.

Meanwhile, loanees Orel Mangala, Jesper Lindstrom, Jack Harrison, Carlos Alcaraz and Armando Broja will return to their parent clubs if permanent deals fail to materialise over the coming weeks.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the Merseysiders will have to agree extensions with some of their players as they don’t have the budget to bring in several new signings.

Borson previously told Football Insider Everton will agree a new deal with Calvert-Lewin before his contract expires next month.

The 28-year-old forward has registered three goals and two assists in 23 appearances this season.

Everton PSR update emerges after contract reveal

Borson insisted Everton are not facing profit and sustainability (PSR) issues after their previous financial struggles.

He told Football Insider“They have got a big summer coming up.

“They still haven’t got huge capacity from a PSR perspective, so they’re going to have to be quite reserved anyway. I suspect they’re going to have to re-sign quite a few of the players who are out of contract.

“I can’t see how they can bring in eight or nine players with the sort of budget that they’ve got. I think that’s going to be very difficult, so I think they might have to keep some of these players on board for an extra one or two years.

“I don’t think they’ve got PSR issues for the current season.

“But if you look at how quiet they were in January, I think what happened is they started January, they sacked the manager and brought in David Moyes, who then won three games and they realised they were probably safe.

“They then thought we just don’t need to risk anything. We have got very low capacity left on PSR. We don’t need to risk anything. Let’s just now get to the end of the season, not have a mad scramble around 30 June and then rebuild in the summer.

“But what that says is they were quite close to the limit for this year. They were under the limit but were quite close. It just means that they won’t have huge capacity but are in control of the situation in a way that they haven’t been for the last four or five years.

“They are in a good, stable position, but not with loads of leeway.”

Everton in talks to agree Idrissa Gueye deal

Football Insider revealed on 28 April Everton are in talks with Gueye over a new contract.

Sources say the Merseysiders are expected to extend the 35-year-old midfielder’s stay at the club beyond this summer.

Gueye has made 208 appearances for Everton over two spells, including 37 outings this season.
