Bristol City boss Liam Manning

Bristol City boss Liam Manning is under consideration at Leicester City with Ruud van Nistelrooy set to depart, as per reporter Ben Jacobs.

Bristol City are preparing to embark on the Championship play-offs after a fine 2024/25 campaign.

The Robins have seen their season extended after finishing 6th in the table and will now face Sheffield United over two legs to earn a place in the final at Wembley Stadium later this month.

The work of manager Liam Manning has been heralded over the course of this season. He arrived from Oxford United as a highly-rated boss, replacing Nigel Pearson, and has built on the foundations laid by the experienced ex-manager.

Now, it is claimed that Manning’s impressive work at Bristol City has put him on the radar at Leicester City. That is according to reporter Ben Jacobs, who says the 39-year-old’s success has him under consideration for the soon-to-be-available job at the King Power Stadium.

Bristol City: Liam Manning on Leicester City managerial radar

The Foxes, who are heading down to the Championship from the Premier League, are set to bid farewell to Ruud van Nistelrooy ahead of next season and will be on the lookout for a replacement in the dugout sooner rather than later.

Manning’s body of work

After spells in the youth setups of Ipswich Town, West Ham and New York City FC, Manning landed his maiden managerial job at Lommel SK. A little over a year in Belgium earned him a move to MK Dons and after leading them to the League One play-offs, he was relieved of his duties a matter of months into the next season.

Nonetheless, a move to Oxford United awaited, and his impressive work in around eight months there earned another step up, this time to the Championship with Bristol City.

Manning hasn’t been without his critics since taking charge at Ashton Gate but they’ve been on a steady upward trajectory this season and impressive form ultimately earned them a 6th-place finish.

An unwelcome distraction for Bristol City?

After finish in the top six, Bristol City now turn their focus to crucial play-off semi-final clashes with Sheffield United.

The interest from Leicester City is by no means advanced, but if they were to make any sort of approach or enquiry in the immediate future, it would certainly be a distraction. If it remains as speculation for the time being, Manning and co will be blocking it out.
