Pick of the stats: Coventry City v West Bromwich Albion - BBC Sport

Coventry City have a good omen heading into West Brom showdown, it’s happened three times in five years

Coventry City can create some breathing room between themselves and the chasing pack – if results go in their favour.

The Sky Blues host West Bromwich Albion at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Good Friday as sixth meets seventh.

With every side still having something to play for in the Championship, the clash is set to be one of the games of the weekend, with Coventry set to break an attendance record.

Coventry’s excellent Good Friday record

Frank Lampard has done an incredible job in the West Midlands to change the fortunes of Coventry from a bottom half finish to genuine promotion contenders.

Despite drawing against Hull City on Monday, the Sky Blues still have their play-off place in their hands and they will be buoyed by their previous performances on the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

In their past five league games played on Good Friday, Coventry have won three of those (drawing one and losing the other). The most recent of those was a 3-1 win at Huddersfield Town last season.

Frank Lampard on West Brom test

Lampard’s success was inspired by West Brom after he waxed lyrical about the Baggies, who inflicted a first defeat of the Coventry era.

But with the ultimate goal within sight on the finishing line, the former England international warned his side that they can’t afford to slip up any more after their draw with Hull.

He said: “From that perspective, its a nice feeling for us and we just have to go game by game now. It’s going to be tough all the way, probably to the end, because that’s what the play-offs normally bring, so we have to just focus on the next game, recover, and accept the disappointment of this game.”

Championship experts in agreement over Coventry vs West Brom prediction as ‘hapless’ theory is made

It’s the tie of the week as Coventry City and West Bromwich Albion go head-to-head in the play-offs.

Both sides are sixth and seventh respectively in the Championship table with lots riding on the line.

Coventry’s 1-1 draw against Hull City opened up the potential for West Brom to leapfrog them into the top six with a win at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The Baggies will need their top talents firing with Tony Mowbray challenging Tom Fellows to become more consistent after he grabbed his first goal contributions of the calendar year.

Given how close the two are, it will be hard to predict, however, two experts have put their neck on the line to suggest how the two will fare.

Coventry tipped to get the win over West Brom

West Brom were the side that Frank Lampard suffered his first defeat as Coventry boss too.

Lampard will also be back in the dugout after his touchline ban he was forced to serve against Hull.

Opta has tipped the Sky Blues to finish in the top six and that’s reflected in Benjamin Bloom and Sam Parkin’s prediction in this highly-anticipated clash.

Bloom said: “I wonder if we might get the return of the hapless West Brom and they’ll allow Coventry to win – so to speak.
