World Cup 2022: Josh Sargent fit for USA campaign after knock in Norwich defeat - BBC Sport

Norwich City forward Josh Sargent has admitted he is happy at the club and refused to rule out staying at Carrow Road beyond this season.

The United States international has been prolific this term for the Canaries under Johannes Hoff Thorup, with his winning goal against West Brom last weekend taking him to 13 strikes for the season.

It’s a particularly impressive stat given Sargent has only played 25 games this term, missing 14 matches with a groin injury that required surgery.

Season Division Appearances Goals Assists

2022/23 Premier League 40 13 2
2023/24 Premier League 26 16 2

Such goalscoring form has attracted a number of clubs to potentially make a move during the summer, with Nottingham Forest reportedly sending scouts to watch the 25-year-old, while Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenburg claimed other Premier League sides are interested along with clubs from the Bundesliga.

Over the international break, Sargent had an interview with the Guardian, which contained a quote about having a ‘decision’ to make over his Carrow Road future this summer.

Since then, the Norwich frontman has responded to his comments and clarified his stance over how long he thinks he’ll remain in East Anglia for.

As reported by the Pink Un, Josh Sargent clarified his comments made to the Guardian, revealing he is happy at the club and that no decision has been made over his future.

Sargent said: “I’m pretty sure in the first half of that interview I said, ‘I have a contract here at Norwich.’ I’m very happy. My family’s very happy here.

“It was in no way saying that I’m definitely gone at the end of the season. I’m very happy with the manager of the team. I was just trying to say there will be options. But that’s not to say that I’m definitely leaving.

“It’s a decision that me and my family are going to have to make. Obviously, the team has to agree to me even leaving in the first place. So as of now, I’m very happy here.

“With that interview, I didn’t try to come off in a bad way. It’s become home for my family, and the fans are amazing to me all the time. I have nothing but good things to say about this place.

“I think it came off a bit in the wrong way. I didn’t want to upset anybody like that.”

Josh Sargent comments offer hope to Norwich City over future stay

Josh Sargent has been fabulous this season for Norwich, with his goals at the top end of the pitch helping to keep the Canaries’ small hopes of a play-off place alive.

Making strides forward to becoming a top-class forward, it is probably the time for Sargent to see what he can produce in the Premier League, particularly if Norwich don’t return to the top-flight.

Norwich finished a disappointing Championship campaign on a positive note as Jack Wilshere’s side beat Aaron Ramsey’s already-relegated…

The Canaries scored three goals in the opening 23 minutes to take control, with Calum Chambers’ 16th-minute sending off hampering the visitors’ cause.

Marcelino Nunez scored twice before top scorer Borja Sainz made it 19 for the season as teams coached by former Arsenal team-mates Wilshere and Ramsey produced an entertaining encounter.

Cardiff striker Yousef Salech scored twice in the second half to keep things respectable, but Shane Duffy nodded home a fourth in between to ensure a first win in seven games for the hosts.

Cardiff were the better side early on, managing three shots on target in the first 10 minutes.

Angus Gunn, making his final appearance for the hosts after his exit was announced in midweek, made two routine saves to deny Cian Ashford and Joe Ralls before pulling off a fine stop to keep out Chambers’ well-struck volley.

But then it all went wrong for the relegated Bluebirds as Norwich scored from their first dangerous attack in the 13th minute before quickly adding two more, with Chambers being sent off into the bargain.

Nunez side-footed home Jack Stacey’s cross at the back post to open the scoring.

And he then brilliantly curled home a 25-yard free-kick after Chambers had halted Josh Sargent’s run on goal with a blatant tug back to earn a straight red card.

Sainz then produced a precise finish into the bottom corner after latching on to Amankwah Forson’s pass to make it 3-0 with a little over a quarter of the game having being played.

Sargent and Ruari McConville both hit the woodwork as Norwich continued to dominate but Cardiff kept battling away and got one back in the 56th minute.

Salech’s run from deep down the right flank was halted illegally in the area by Callum Doyle and the Danish striker picked himself up to coolly convert from the spot to give his side a deserved goal.

Norwich took over again after that and made it 4-1 midway through the half when Duffy rose unchallenged to power Jacob Wright’s corner into the back of the net.

The Canaries missed further chances to stretch their lead before Salech pulled another one back in the 84th minute, scuffing home a volley from just outside the six-yard box after the hosts had failed to deal with a corner.
