City mayor visits Colchester Zoo for conservation talk
The Mayor of Colchester has visited the Colchester Zoological Society (CZS).
Colchester Mayor, Lesley Scott-Boutell, was invited by CZS to meet the management team.
The purpose of the visit was to learn more about the zoo’s recent transition to a charity and its global conservation efforts.
As of February 1, the zoo officially gained charitable status under the name Colchester Zoological Society.
This transition aims to raise awareness about the importance of conservation and how a day at the zoo contributes to worldwide projects.
During her visit, the Mayor also toured the zoo’s newly refurbished ‘Capuchin Climb’ habitat, which houses the critically endangered buff-headed capuchin species.
Rebecca Moore, zoological director, said: “We were pleased to welcome the Mayor, Ms Lesley Scott-Boutell, to Colchester Zoological Society to update her on some of the important changes that have taken place with our charity this year, on our recent conservation and education work and on our plans for the future.”
Councillor Lesley Scott-Boutell said: “The strong connection between CZS and our local community is clear, and I’m proud to support efforts to grow and strengthen that relationship.”
The incident is causing long delays and congestion is backed up to the A12 and past the Coggeshall bypass.
The road is closed along Coggeshall Road between Ashbury Drive and Godmans Lane.
