The League One promotion race is back in Wrexham’s hands once again.

The 1-1 draw left Wycombe in second place and Wrexham looking for another spark before the end of the season.

Monday provided that spark and Phil Parkinson deserves huge praise for guiding his side to such an impressive display under huge pressure.

Wrexham legend Mickey Thomas has now taken to X to offer huge praise for Parkinson after Monday’s victory.

Thomas noted that Parkinson is doing an ‘incredible job’ at Wrexham, moving the club to potentially just two games away from the Championship.

Thomas added that Parkinson has made ‘big decisions’ for the benefit of the team, possibly pointing to Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer’s absences since the January transfer window.

“Just a special mention for Phil Parkinson on a incredible job he’s doing at Wrexham. 2 games away from automatic promotion to the Championship, had to made some big decisions in the last couple of months in the best interest of the team, top manager,” said Thomas.

When one supporter admitted not particularly enjoying Wrexham’s style of play, Thomas moved to defend the Wrexham boss.

“Every manager has their own style of playing. If it’s getting results it’s very hard to argue with it. I want championship football for Wrexham, am not particularly bothered how they do it,” he added.

Wrexham could have really spiralled after Friday’s draw, especially as Blackpool boast a superb home record.

Parkinson has always preached calmness, though, and regularly says to not get too high when Wrexham win, but also to not get too low when results don’t go in Wrexham’s favour.

Eoghan O’Conenll has praised Wrexham’s mentality, with that level-headed nature of Parkinson represented in the dressing room.

That mindset means Wrexham have hit back brilliantly after poor results this season, and Monday’s win could end up being the crucial result in this promotion race.

Parkinson’s style of play isn’t always entertaining, and we would love to see Wrexham add more creativity this summer.

Parkinson could make history with a third promotion, though, and deserves praise for having Wrexham in this position once again.
