Day in the Life: Former Clemson mascot Tyler Murray - GREENVILLE JOURNALAs the Clemson Tigers prepare for the 2025 college football season, expectations are high for a squad that ranks No. 1 in the country in returning offensive production. Quarterback Cade Klubnik and his top receivers are all back, setting the stage for a potent aerial attack.

However, one of the most pressing concerns for Clemson heading into spring practice is the running back position. The Tigers’ rushing game will look much different in 2025 following the departure of Phil Mafah, who left for the NFL after a standout season in which he rushed for over 1,100 yards. His departure leaves a significant void in Clemson’s backfield. Additionally, Jay Haynes, Mafah’s backup, remains out after suffering a knee injury during the ACC Championship Game, further complicating the situation. This leaves Keith Adams Jr., who logged 122 yards on 30 carries last season, as the most experienced returning running back. To address the lack of depth at running back, Clemson is getting creative.Day in the Life: Former Clemson mascot Tyler Murray - GREENVILLE JOURNAL

The coaching staff has begun experimenting with 6-2, 225-pound wide receiver Adam Randall at running back this spring. Randall showed his potential in the College Football Playoff loss to Texas, contributing to the ground game in an emergency role. His size and versatility could make him an intriguing option in the backfield, offering both power and agility. Clemson is also looking to its incoming talent to help fill the gap. Freshman Gideon Davidson, Virginia’s Player of the Year, has enrolled early and is already participating in spring practices.Clemson Tigers Orange and White Spring football game: Our best photos

Davidson’s exceptional athleticism and versatility could make him an immediate factor, though his experience at the college level is still limited. Additionally, backs like Jarvis Green and David Eziomume will be given a chance to showcase their skills and potentially claim a spot in the rotation.
