Bold Regis Le Bris verdict as Sunderland show promotion grit - 'It's a question of winning' - Chronicle Live

‘It’s possible’ – Regis Le Bris makes worrying admission over Sunderland winger’s injury ahead of Norwich City tie

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has admitted Romaine Mundle’s season could be over but they must wait on specialist advice.

Sunderland are looking to maintain form over the final stages of the season with a play-off spot all but confirmed. SAFC aren’t out of the top two race yet, but those above will need to keep slipping up while they maintain form.

After the weekend’s win over West Brom, Regis Le Bris’ men are back in action on Tuesday night. A tussle with Norwich City awaits with the Carrow Road outfit destined for a mid-table finish.

Sunderland may be in a strong position but persisting injuries on the left-wing have struck again. Romaine Mundle was forced off with a new hamstring setback at The Hawthorns.

Now, Le Bris has offered an update on the wide star heading into the Tuesday night clash with the Canaries.

Although further advice from specialists is required, Sunderland head coach Le Bris conceded that it could be that Mundle’s season is ended by this latest setback. For now though, they wait with their fingers crossed.

“It is a hamstring injury, but we don’t know the timeline yet,” the SAFC boss said, as quoted by The Northern Echo.

“We need more advice from specialists, so we will have to wait a little bit.

“Could it be the end of his season? Yes, it’s possible. We will have to make a decision over the situation, but it is not up us really because we need some specific advice to be able to make this decision.”

A nervous wait…

Between injuries to Tommy Watson, Mundle and the returning Enzo Le Fee, Sunderland have had some real problems to contend with on the left.

Le Fee was signed in January, coming in as a natural ce

ntral midfielder. However, the injuries to Watson and Mundle saw him fill in on the left as a makeshift often before he was hit with a setback of his own.

Having endured a long spell out with a hamstring injury already this season, SAFC now have a nervous wait to determine the severity of Mundle’s latest problem. It would be a big blow for Le Bris and co if his campaign has been ended.

In his absence

Considering Le Bris has said Watson will remain in contention and available for selection despite his Brighton move, he seems to be the logical replacement. However, he remain unused on the bench even when Mundle was forced off against West Brom.

That perhaps points towards his Sunderland role being a reduced one over the remainder of the season.

If not Watson, Eliezer Mayenda may come in as an option on the left again. Le Fee is back in the fray but will be eased in, while youngsters Milan Aleksic and Harrison Jones will be hoping fo increased opportunities.

Norwich City transfer stance made crystal clear by Preston North End and Derby County linked midfielder

PNE are one of a handful of Championship clubs to be linked with the Man City midfielder

Preston North End have been credited with interest in Jacob Wright but joining Norwich City permanently is the midfielder’s focus.

The-19-year-old is on loan at Carrow Road for the rest of the season, but there is a £2.3million buy-option inserted in the agreement. It was reported last month that PNE were preparing a summer swoop for Wright, after a move was considered in January.

Wright’s parent club is Manchester City and the likes of Swansea City and Derby County have also been linked with him this campaign. After making nine appearances for the Canaries, though, there is very much appetite on Wright’s part to stick around.

He said last weekend: “Yes, 100 per cent. I’m really starting to build something nice at the club. I’m enjoying it. It’s a good family club. I’m really enjoying the way they play. Hopefully, we can get some better results next season if I am to stay. I’d definitely like to stay, hopefully.
