Jarrod Bowen says he’s being unfairly criticised by some West Ham fans – ‘Easy when you slow it down’

Some West Ham United fans were critical of Jarrod Bowen during our defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

That’s unusual to say the least, because Jarrod Bowen is far and away West Ham‘s best and most consistent player.

“It is not the first time where we score a goal and then the next goal kick we just shoot the ball long. We don’t try to play football anymore.

“We don’t push up anymore, we just sink and that’s not the way we want to play.

Jean-Clair Todibo recent labelled his West Ham teammate Jarrod Bowen as one of the best players in the league.

The 28-year-old has been sensational for the Hammers since moving to the London Stadium in January 2020.

Bowen has bagged an incredible 69 goals and 48 assists in 232 games for West Ham (Transfermarkt).

Those numbers really are very impressive. However, as a result of his quality, some Hammers fans expect even more from him.

Bowen was extremely frustrated to leave Anfield with nothing to show for his efforts.

The Hammers were the better team in the second-half, and we definitely should have drawn the game at the very least.

Bowen missed a great chance, only for Alisson to stop his shot, and he explained exactly why it was harder to score than some people are making out, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“I had a chance when the keeper comes out and smothers it and it hits him on the head.

“I think the only thing I could have done [differently] was shoot for his legs. Obviously, it’s easy when you slow it down, but as soon as I made the run, Lucas [Paquetá] found me. I had my touch, he was in front of me and [in that moment] I think the chip over him was the only thing.

“I think if he moves his head out of one way or the other, it might go in, but those are the fine margins. He’s one of the best keepers in the world.“

The former Hull City start was named club captain in the summer, after Kurt Zouma left.

As good a player as Bowen undoubtedly is, he doesn’t seem to talk enough on the pitch.

The 28-year-old certainly doesn’t get in the faces of referees as much as he should, and we rarely seeing him talking with his teammates.

I didn’t think Jarrod Bowen was the right man for the West Ham captaincy at the time, and I still don’t believe that he is.

However, he should be given time to grow into the role. Let’s see where we stand in the summer.
