March is a time for madness, especially with all the conference tournaments and, of course, the NCAA Tournament. This season, March kicked off with a bang when Tennessee’s Jahmai Mashack drilled a near-half-court three-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Volunteers over Alabama.
The head coaching vacancies have been a roller coaster up until this point. It started with Florida State and Utah hiring the expected candidates, but then Indiana made an unexpected move, hiring West Virginia’s Darian DeVries.
The Nrth Caroli State Wolfpack have been searching for their next head coach since firing Kevin Keatts. All signs seem to be pointing to Will Wade, especially after his reaction during his media availability on Wednesday.
“Will Wade confirms that he’s been in touch with N.C. State, answering ‘Yes’ to a question about contact with them. And then smiling,” ESPN’s Pete Thamel posted.
That was reported early on Wednesday, but just a few hours later, even more significant news broke—news that in fact confirmed Wade would be the next head coach of North Carolina State. The McNeese head coach has been the presumed favorite throughout the entire process.
“NC State has a verbal agreement in place with McNeese State head coach Will Wade,” Jeff Goodman posted. “Nothing is signed yet, but the expectation is that it’ll be official shortly after McNeese gets eliminated from the NCAA Tournament.”
This was the expected move, as it’s believed that the Wolfpack boosters wanted Wade all along. In today’s era of college sports, it is very clear that having the support of boosters is crucial. Wade is a strong recruiter and a proven winner.
Now, it’s just a matter of time before Wade is announced as the next leader of the Wolfpack. It could be as early as this week that he officially becomes the head coach, or it could be next weekend, depending on how deep of a run McNeese makes in the tournament.
