Manor Solomon twist emerges after Leeds United announcement
Tuesday was a busy day for Leeds United as the club confirmed three exits before announcing their third signing of the summer window, in defender Sebastiaan Bornauw.
Leeds confirmed the departure of left-back Junior Firpo with a move to Real Betis set to be announced in due course. The Dominican Republic star will sign a three-year deal, with Firpo earning £76,000 a week.
Leeds also informed fans that Manor Solomon and Joe Rothwell would return to their parent clubs. But the latter is on the move already, with Rothwell set to reunite with Russell Martin at Rangers permanently.
Then, Leeds confirmed Bornauw’s arrival on a four-year contract until June 2029. It is just the start of what is expected to be a busy week, with Leeds pushing on ahead of the club’s pre-season return on July 7.
Manor Solomon twist emerges as Leeds linger in background
Leeds fans are desperate for Solomon to sign permanently after his 23 goals and assists for The Whites last season, which included the winner at Plymouth on the final day to secure the Championship title.
But Solomon has informed Tottenham he wants a second chance at Spurs, with Thomas Frank keen to take a look at the former Fulham man before making a decision. TeamTalk deliver an update on Solomon.
They say that Leeds remain interested in signing Solomon permanently, but that they will continue to be patient and wait for Tottenham to make their decision on the Israel star, despite Leeds’ announcement.
How much Leeds may have to pay to sign Manor Solomon
Initial reports suggested that a fee between £15m and £20m would convince Daniel Levy to sell Solomon. Spurs signed Solomon for nothing, so any fee received would represent pure PSR profit for Levy’s men.
However, more-recent reports say that Spurs see Solomon as a top-end Championship player after his 2024-25 form. They believe these kinds of players often go for fees between £30m and £40m these days.
So it could be that if Spurs do decide to cash in on Solomon after taking a look at him during pre-season, Leeds would still have to splash a club-record fee to land the left-winger on a permanent basis.
Tuesday was a busy day at Leeds United as the club confirmed the departures of three players, while confirming their third signing of the summer window in Sebastiaan Bornauw.
Leeds waved goodbye to Junior Firpo, with the left-back’s contract coming to an end. Interestingly, the club did not confirm whether Sam Byram is leaving Leeds, with Byram’s contract also coming to an end.
