Phil Parkinson sends stark warning to potential new Wrexham signings with latest transfer update, ‘it is important…

Wrexham fans are eagerly anticipating more transfer arrivals as the club kicked into action with their first summer capture.

Ryan Hardie joined Wrexham from relegated Plymouth Argyle in a deal worth a reported £700k and Phil Parkinson is hoping that is just the beginning of the club’s business.

With other areas of the team in need of strengthening, Wrexham are interested in Owen Beck to provide further options on the left flank.

Wrexham have offered a contract to Craig Dawson and are chasing central midfield options too, however, the Red Dragons’ boss has issued a stark warning to any potential newcomers with his latest comments.

Speaking to the Leader, Parkinson has provided an update on Wrexham’s latest transfer activity but believes his squad is already in good shape ahead of pre-season.

The Wrexham squad are due to return to the training ground for some ‘test days’ this week and the boss has revealed that he is only looking to sign players that can add something to his side.

Parkinson stated: “Talks are on-going, as you would expect, at this stage of the close season. But equally, we have got a good squad in place as well and we have got plenty of numbers to start pre-season with.

“We have got some test days this week but it is not as if we are going into pre-season short on players and it is important that the ones we bring in, really add to the group we have got; both in football-wise and obviously character.”

Phil Parkinson will need to sell players in his Wrexham squad

Championship rules state that the club can only name a 25-man squad this season and that includes goalkeepers – unlike in League One.

Paul Mullin is set to join Wigan Athletic on loan for the season as Parkinson sets about trimming the seven strikers he has at his disposal.

Ollie Palmer has been told he can leave this summer, whilst there is an expectation that the likes of Will Boyle and Luke Bolton will also depart the Racecourse Ground.

As Parkinson mentioned, any replacements for the above players would need to have the required ability for the second tier and the right character to slot into a tight-knit dressing room.
