Wrexham striker target has 'agreed a deal' with Championship rivals ahead of next season, 'straight loan…'

Wrexham striker target has ‘agreed a deal’ with Championship rivals ahead of next season, ‘straight loan…’

Wrexham have just been handed perhaps their first blow of the summer transfer window, after one of Phil Parkinson’s striker targets agreed a move to Preston North End.

The summer so far has been fairly uneventful for Phil Parkinson and his side following promotion to the Championship.

Whilst Wrexham have been linked with a number of players, there’s only been the one signing so far with Ryan Hardie joining on a permanent deal from Plymouth Argyle.

But it’s a very good signing. It sets the tone for the rest of the summer transfer window and reiterates Parkinson’s wish to sign Championship-proven players this summer.

And the striker department at the Racecourse looks set to undergo some transformation this summer, no less after it was confirmed that Paul Mullin is set to join Wigan Athletic on loan for the 2025/26 season.

There’s several strikers linked with Wrexham right now, with one of them being Bournemouth and Canadian international Daniel Jebbison.

Earlier in June, it was reported that Wrexham were interested in signing Jebbison on loan from Bournemouth. The 21-year-old former Sheffield United man played 16 times in the Premier League for Bournemouth last season, scoring once after a failed loan spell at Watford in the first half of the campaign.

Despite failing to score in 13 Championship outings for the Hornets, Jebbison has sealed another loan move to the second tier with Sky Sports journalist Mark McAdam revealing on X that Jebbison has ‘agreed a deal’ to join Preston North End on loan, in a ‘straight loan’ with no obligation for the Lilywhites to buy.

It’s certainly a blow for Wrexham and Parkinson, though not the end of the world with the Dragons having set their sights on a number of potential striker signings this summer.

With Jebbison now off of Wrexham’s shortlist, it leaves several others including Leeds United duo Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt.

The latest on those fronts is that Gelhardt doesn’t look likely to join Wrexham this summer, with transfer expert Graeme Bailey having played down a move to the Racecourse whilst also suggesting that the Leeds outcast is a League One-level striker.

Meanwhile, Bamford continues to be linked with Wrexham. But the one-time England striker will be given the choice of whether or not he stays at Elland Road this summer, with Leeds set to improve on their striker options.

Callum Robinson is another striker linked. But there’s bad news on that front too with new Bluebirds boss manager Brian Barry-Murphy saying that Cardiff City don’t have to sell players this summer, hinting that he wants to keep his best players for next season.

Wrexham transfer news and rumours: Paul Mullin exit, Ollie Palmer plan and more

We are now in day six of the 2025 summer transfer window, and Wrexham have already made their first signing.

Wrexham couldn’t make signings in the first 2025 summer window because there are no Welsh teams in the Club World Cup.

However, when the transfer window reopened on June 16 for every team, the Dragons made a signing within 24 hours.

Ryan Hardie has signed from Plymouth Argyle, but a lot more business is expected to be completed at the Racecourse.

We have now rounded up all the latest Wrexham transfer news and rumours from the last few days.

Paul Mullin to Wigan Athletic

Paul Mullin has been linked with a move to Wigan Athletic for the last several weeks.

There has been a suggestion that he could leave Wrexham for free to complete a move despite having two years left on his contract.

But it has now been reported that Wigan have agreed to sign Mullin on loan.

Wrexham plan for Ollie Palmer

Like Mullin, Ollie Palmer fell heavily out of favour under Phil Parkinson toward the end of last season.

With Hardie arriving just as Steven Fletcher is leaving, the 33-year-old appears to be still very far down the striker pecking order.

It’s now been reported that Wrexham have told Palmer he can leave the club in the summer transfer window.

Wrexham interest in Tommy Doyle

Wrexham were linked with Tommy Doyle of Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this month.

The midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at Wolves and is expected to leave the club.

Wrexham ‘like’ Doyle, though Birmingham City are thought to be leading that race.
