Football news 2024, Harry Souttar injured for Socceroos and Sheffield United

Prominent role for tough Fox predicted as £15m defender set to leave Leicester

We have two Leicester City stories to discuss with you on Friday afternoon. First of all, we are talking about a returning Foxes loanee. There could indeed be a prominent role for an international LCFC midfielder. How, a centre back signed for £15 million could finally be set to leave the Foxes. The defender has also been out on loan though his time on Filbert Way might now be ending abruptly following injury. What are the claims from a top media source? And what do we think will ultimately happen at King Power Stadium?

A more prominent role for international Foxes midfielder Hamza Choudhury?

Choudhury is a difficult Fox to define and explain for somebody like me. With his dedication and attributes, he will one day find a home. He will start for and probably captain and side.

I just can’t see that scenario occurring at Leicester for some reason. Sometimes things just don’t translate or fit. As I say, he will be an asset somewhere. His metal in the middle and inverted can be invaluable.

Although, with Profit and Sustainability problems, City need dedicated and reliable players without expenditure. So this offers Choudhury his chance to irrevocably solidify his place. Below are The Athletic writer Rob Tanner’s thoughts:

“Choudhury’s versatility and ability at Championship level could mean he has a prominent role for Leicester in the campaign to come, especially if there is the expected clear-out of some senior, high-earning players following relegation.”

£15m Leicester City defender Harry Souttar set to leave?

As Tanner rightly says, Souttar has endured a torrid time at the King Power since joining the Foxes in 2023. He was soon out of then-manager Brendan Rodgers’ plans. Albeit Dean Smith actually deployed the towering centre half now and again.

To be honest, Foxes of Leicester also got it wrong with regards to the Australia National Team player. I saw his remarkably accurate long passes, composure and heavy tackling at Stoke City and assumed he’d become a Premier League standout. Somewhat similar to how Harry Maguire excelled at City.

“Souttar still has three years left on his contract, but it would take a remarkable change in fortune for him to come close to spending that time with Leicester.”
Though Souttar didn’t acclimatise greatly. But he was rather bluntly dropped and discarded by LCFC. According to The Athletic, he is now a definite candidate to leave Leicestershire at last.

Leicester City Owner Drops Hint on Next Managerial Choice

Leicester City owner Khun Top reveals potential playing style for next season, when considering next season’s coach. Top, who took on the role back in 2018, has overseen the arrival of the likes of Brendan Rodgers, Enzo Maresca and Ruud Van Nistelrooy. As the club aims to return to the Premier League, having the right coach is essential.

Leicester City Owner Khun Top Dismisses Potential Coach

Owner Reveals Preferred Managerial Choice

As confirmed by Rob Tanner, Top is in favour of a coach who plays a system similar to Maresca. The current Chelsea head coach brought a possession-based style, which was eerily similar to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. This comes as no surprise given the success under the Italian coach, as he guided the Foxes back to the Premier League, on the first time of asking.

Tanner also added that this admission would therefore rule out Sean Dyche. Many have linked the former Everton boss with the job, given his success in the second tier with Burnley. However, his most recent stint with the Toffees shows he doesn’t fit Top’s ideal profile. Dyche uses low blocks, quick transitions, and pragmatism, which reinforces the idea that he won’t be the right fit at the King Power Stadium.

This leads to Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl being a potential candidate. Although the German would cost a substantial amount from compensation to the Owls and any back-room staff who come along too. As a result, this may lead to Van Nistelrooy staying, as it is a cost-efficient option, and a coach with the desired system.

How Leicester City Could Look Next Season

After hearing Top’s thoughts on the new coach, it provides insight into what the club could look like next season. In the 2023/24 season, Maresca’s side dominated the ball as they boasted the second most possession on average with 62%. In addition to this, they were also able to create in front of goal.
