Hull City | Abu Kamara

Portsmouth keen on reuniting with Hull City attacker

Hull City forward Abu Kamara is attracting interest from his former side Portsmouth once again this summer, reports Hull Live.

Hull City have undergone another managerial change with Sergej Jakirovic becoming the latest to take charge at the MKM Stadium following the surprise dismissal of Ruben Selles. The changes are not expected to stop there, with plenty of business to be done once again at HCAFC this summer.

No fewer than 15 new players arrived at Hull last summer, and after a disappointing season, more squad changes are expected under Jakirovic. With that comes plenty of decisions to be made over the club’s current crop.

One man who could be on the move is a signing from last year, Abu Kamara. Hull Live are reporting that Portsmouth are keen on reuniting with their former loanee once again.

Portsmouth wanted to sign Kamara permanently last summer before Hull City swooped in. Kamara had an excellent season at Fratton Park, where he was a key part of their promotion to the Championship in the 2023/24 season, scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists.

Would Hull City sell?

Hull City spent a decent fee on Abu Kamara just a year ago. He reportedly cost Hull around £4.5m to prize away from Norwich City after he handed in a transfer request at Carrow Road.

Kamara had an average season with the Tigers, but it did pick up in the second half of the year. He finished the season with five goals and three assists in 38 Championship games this campaign.

If Hull City do let Kamara go this summer after just a year, they will want to recoup close to the fee they paid. However, after a mediocre year, they may struggle to do so but there is every chance he could be available.

A fresh start this year

While Kamara is yet to set the world alight with Hull, there were signs of promise last year. After a full pre-season with another new boss this year, he could start afresh this upcoming season.

He has a new chance to go again under Jakirovic, he just needs to make the most of it. Many other players will be in the same boat though.

It could be an interesting summer for Kamara. Any movement for him though, will likely come after his new boss has had a proper look at his squad.

West Bromwich Albion midfielder John Swift is open to a return to boyhood club Portsmouth this summer, some 19 years after he departed for Chelsea.

According to The News, the boyhood Pompey fan is interested in returning to the South Coast following the expiration of his contract at the Hawthorns.

Swift also has interest from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United States, but he is believed to be keen on heading back to the area he grew up in and returning to his first ever club. He was a part of Portsmouth’s academy system before joining Chelsea as a youngster in 2006.
