Oxford United unveils plans for new 3G pitch at training ground
Oxford United has submitted plans for a new 3G pitch to be built at its training facility.
According to the planning documents, the pitch would primarily be used by Oxford United’s women’s team, who compete in the FA WPL Premier Division South and are pushing for promotion.
As well as the new pitch, the application includes new floodlights and landscaping.
No comments in support or objection have so far been submitted by members of the public.

The scheme’s planning statement said: “The proposed 3G pitch facility seeks to synergise and enhance the provision available by delivering a new pitch that can benefit the club and the community and can be used all year round and during the winter months.
“The proposed 3G pitch would further strengthen the available facilities for community use along with the football club and all its teams at various youth levels. Additionally, it will be primarily used by the OUFC Women’s team.
“The team currently play in FA WPL Premier Division South but are pushing for promotion into the Barclays Women’s Championship. It is understood that certain facilities are required in order to play at this higher level.

“The proposed development will also assist in helping OUFC reach its next training ground qualification.”
The planning papers added that the pitch would be available for use from Monday to Sunday from 9am to 10pm.
They added: “In this case, no building has been developed with this proposal; there are just ancillary functions such as floodlighting and fencing.
“Therefore, the proposal “ preserves” the openness of the Green Belt in this location, given the context of its surroundings. Significant building development is nearby, affecting the transparency of the Green Belt in the form of industrial buildings to the south.
“The proposal will also be seen in context with the other pitches found within the facility.
“The development of the pitch will preserve the openness of the Green Belt and will not impact upon the purposes of the Green Belt land identified by paragraph 143 of the Framework. Therefore, it is not an inappropriate form of development.
“Furthermore, it should be noted that the built structures of the flood lighting will support the use of the site for all hours to accommodate the community.”
