Norwich City closing in on 6-figure Plymouth Argyle transfer swoop
Norwich City are closing in on the signature of goalkeeper Dan Grimshaw from Plymouth Argyle for £600,000, according to reports.
Norwich finished 13th in the Championship in 2024-25, and they also released first-choice goalkeeper Angus Gunn at the end of the campaign, after deciding not to renew his contract.
The Canaries are currently managerless, following their decision to relieve Johannes Hoff Thorup of his duties towards the end of the season. They have been closely linked with the Bristol City manager Liam Manning as a potential replacement, though this has not yet been confirmed.
Dan Grimshaw is set to join Norwich from Plymouth for £600,000
Sky Sports News reporter Anthony Joseph has reported that Norwich are set to sign goalkeeper Dan Grimshaw from Plymouth Argyle for a fee of £600,000, subject to agreeing personal terms and a medical.
Plymouth were relegated back to League One at the end of the 2024/25 season – Grimshaw signed for them from Blackpool in August 2024 for an undisclosed fee.
Intriguingly, Grimshaw has a previous connection to Liam Manning, having spent time on loan at the Belgian club Lommel during the 2020/21 season while Manning was managing there, and whilst not a regular starter from the get-go, the ex-Man City stopper ended the campaign in-between the sticks for the final 10 matches.
Norwich City swoop for Daniel Grimshaw is a smart one
Grimshaw is a product of the Manchester City academy, having first joined the club as a teenager in 2018.
But he was unable to secure a place in the first team squad, and was loaned out to non-league Hemel Hempstead Town for the second half of the 2019/20 season. He was then sent out again the following season to the Belgian second-tier club Lommel, where Manning had been appointed as manager.

Manning moved on to Oxford United after a year and, speaking to the Blackpool Gazette ahead of a match between Blackpool and Oxford in October 2023, Grimshaw was full of praise for his former manager, saying that, “He gave me a chance in Belgium. We got on well – he’s a really good manager.”
That this particular goalkeeper should have been the one that Norwich have settled on will only fuel speculation that Liam Manning is destined for Carrow Road, and it’s only a matter of time before both are confirmed to arrive in Norfolk, and for the fee involved, Grimshaw signing on the dotted line for the Canaries will bring an exciting new face to the goalkeeping ranks.
