Norwich City: Fulham touted with Sainz transfer interest
Norwich City have not received any offers for Josh Sargent or Borja Sainz with the summer transfer window now officially open.
Canaries’ sporting director Ben Knapper revealed at his post-season media round there was already interest in the Championship team-of-the-season pair.
Sainz has been linked with a hosts of clubs abroad since the end of the season, with Premier League Fulham the latest to be monitoring his situation.
The Cottagers are reportedly looking to make additions to their forward line after finishing 11th in the top flight under the highly-rated Marco Silva.
Attacking duo Carlos Vinicius and Willian are out of contract at Craven Cottage this coming summer, with Fulham recently taking up one year options on Adama Traore and Harry Wilson.
Sainz’s camp have held discussions with Champions League qualifiers Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal, but the 24-year-old was also touted with Olympiacos in recent days.
The Spaniard’s representatives were at Colney in the closing weeks of the season for talks, and City expect the attacker to depart at the right price after 22 goal contributions in 41 league appearances.
Sargent, meanwhile, was again linked with interest from both the Premier League and the Bundesliga over the weekend.
The US international’s camp are believed to have been approached by German clubs to assess his situation.
Sargent started his European career at Werder Bremen, prior to signing for the Canaries in 2021, and indicated towards the end of last season he may have to weigh up his career options this coming summer.
City officials remain relaxed about Sargent’s Carrow Road status with the 25-year-old under contract until 2028. Norwich are believed to have had dialogue with FC Cincinnati 12 months ago around a potential MLS move, but the feeling is Sargent’s future is unlikely to be resolved until later in the summer, with City willing to hold firm on their valuation for the prolific second tier forward.
Norwich’s head coach search is expected to conclude at the start of this coming week when Liam Manning completes his move from Bristol City.
Jacob Wright was the Canaries first confirmed business of the summer last week, but the Championship outfit are also planning to make more additions prior to the first mini transfer window closing on June 10.
A keeper is a top priority with Angus Gunn set to depart when his contract officially expires, and uncertainty around the future of George Long.
