Derby County set for starring role in Hollywood transfer thriller as veteran defender targeted

Latest transfer news from DerbyshireLive as the Rams and big-bucks Wrexham are linked with move for Wolves player

Derby County are said to be one of two Championship clubs considering a move for former Wolves centre-half Craig Dawson.

The 35-year-old is out of contract at Molineux, and Sun transfer expert Alan Nixon claims today that both Derby and promoted Wrexham are keen on recruiting him.

He writes: “Dawson wants to play on, and Rams boss John Eustace likes his experience.”

Bolstering his back-line remains a key summer task for Eustace, and he has already been tipped to make a move for veteran defender Danny Batth, also a former Wolves player who is now plying his trade at Blackburn.

Last season, Liverpool centre-half Nat Phillips was a key man for the Rams as they successfully fought off relegation fears to extend their stay in the second tier.

Eustace has already spoken of his desire to keep Phillips at Pride Park next season, with an exit from Anfield on the cards for the 28-year-old this summer.

As such, it seems they are looking for options elsewhere, and one of those is said to be Dawson, who joined Wolves from West Ham in January 2023 and played a key role in keeping them in the Premier League.

However, they will face competition for his signature from Wrexham, who have gone from the Conference to the Championship with three successive promotion campaigns bankrolled by Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Nixon adds: “Eustace is also interested in Blackburn’s Danny Batth, and that may allow Wrexham to do a deal for Dawson on top wages.”
