I don't know which way to go' - Wrexham offered hope of landing Premier League star as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's side aim to strengthen squad after promotion to Championship |

Wrexham join Derby County in race to sign veteran Premier League defender on free transfer

Wrexham continue to be linked with potential signings amid Phil Parkinson’s interest in experienced players.

Wrexham are expected to splash the cash this summer, but most rumours right now surround players out of contract.

omReports suggest Wrexham want Tom Cairney, with the Fulham captain currently set to leave as his contract expires later this month.

Defender Aaron Cresswell is also on Wrexham’s radar, having been released by Premier League side West Ham United.

Steven Fletcher and Mark Howard are leaving Wrexham this summer, so Parkinson may look to replenish the experienced leadership in his squad.

Wrexham interested in signing Craig Dawson

Wrexham fans are all saying the same thing about 'brilliant' Aaron Cresswell links, but they have one concern

The Sun now report that Wrexham are keen on signing Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Craig Dawson.

It’s suggested that Wrexham have placed Dawson on a shortlist of targets this summer.

The 35-year-old wants to continue his playing career as he prepares to leave Wolves on a free transfer this summer.

Dawson was banished from the Wolves first team after the January transfer window as Vitor Pereira snapped up two new defenders.

BBC Sport reported that Wolves were in talks to terminate Dawson’s contract, but that did not materialise.

“I gave the information in advance to the club that if we bring in another centre-back, I will not have space for Craig in the squad,” said Pereira in February.

“This is something that I spoke with the club (about) for a long time. I had a conversation with the player and I respect the player a lot, and I respect his career, but his profile is not the profile that I’m looking to build the team around,” he added.

Dawson will leave Wolves on a free transfer and Wrexham appear to be keen, but are far from alone in the race.

Derby County boss John Eustace is understood to be keen on signing Dawson, with Blackburn Rovers centre-back Danny Batth also on his wish list.

Dawson represents another veteran presence being linked to Wrexham, but also another centre-back.

The summer window has yet to really explode, but we are already seeing Wrexham being linked with a host of defenders.

Plymouth Argyle’s Maksym Talovierov has been linked to Wrexham after suffering relegation from the Championship.

Harry Darling is on Wrexham’s wish list, with the Swansea City defender yet to make a decision on his expiring contract.

Dawson is another one to add to the list, but would surely only really be an option in the heart of Wrexham’s back three at this stage in his career.

This appears to be an area Parkinson really wants to strengthen, and Dawson could be the man to come in and compete with Dan Scarr and Eoghan O’Connell.
