Blackburn Rovers, Coventry City among clubs in pursuit of Peterborough United starlet
Peterborough United talent James Dornelly is wanted by Fulham, West Brom, Coventry City, Oxford United, and Blackburn Rovers, Football League World have reported.
Peterborough United are hoping for a successful summer transfer window to amend their poor form this season in League One. The Posh finished 18th in the table and were only five points above the bottom four.
Darren Ferguson’s side were triumphant in the EFL Trophy, however, and came out 2-0 victors against League One champions Birmingham City. This was the Cambridgeshire outfit’s only real bright point of the season, as interest in a lot of their squad rises.
Kwame Poku has been a name brought up regularly throughout the season, and as the summer window nears, he is just one, to name a few, of the players set to move away from London Road.
According to reports by Football League World, one Premier League and four Championship clubs are after Peterborough United defender James Dornelly.
Fulham have eyes on their second Peterborough player after submitting a £1m bid earlier in the week for Harley Mills. West Brom, Coventry City, Blackburn Rovers and Oxford United make up the remaining four teams after the young PUFC talent.
This isn’t the first time Fulham have been interested in Dornelly, as Football League World also said that the Cottagers had an offer turned down for the 20-year-old in the January window.
The right-back had a breakthrough this year at Peterborough United and made 36 appearances this campaign, where he featured in the starting XI for the remaining couple of months of the season.
Despite the interest from a host of clubs, PUFC do have the advantage of having secured his services until the summer of 2028 at least.
Peterborough United to be raided again
Peterborough United are no strangers to heavy interest in their young talent from Championship and Premier League clubs. Ronnie Edwards was subject to transfer rumours for a few seasons before moving to Southampton last summer.
Darren Ferguson will trust that his board will make the right decisions this summer and keep hold of the players who want to play a part for his side next season.
PUFC have already faced losing Hector Kyprianou, and Poku is more than likely to follow, so selling Mills and Dornelly would be a huge blow for their chances in League One next season.
