Kirby Smart and his staff have been very productive in the transfer portal so far this offseason. They have earned commitments at multiple key positions, especially at wide receiver where they brought in two new starters for next season.
And while they have done a great job so far, that job is far from over. There won’t be much action in the transfer portal until later this spring, but when the portal does take center stage again there is a great chance that Georgia will be extremely active recruiting the portal once again. So what are some positions that Georgia and Smart should consider targeting?
Here are three positions that would make a lot of sense.
1. Running Back
The first position Smart needs to address in the transfer portal later this spring is running back. Georgia football does have a great option at running back next season in Nate Frazier who undoubtedly will be the starter and receive a bulk of the carries, but he is the only elite option at running back heading into next season who has a lot of experience.
The Bulldogs thought they’d be getting Trevor Etienne back for one more season, but Etienne eventually made the decision to enter the NFL Draft instead. So that leaves a hole that Georgia potentially needs to fill to backup Frazier.
Georgia doesn’t need to go out and get an elite running back who will take carries away from Frazier, they just need a very experienced back that will allow Frazier to get some rest during the game. And in the event that Frazier gets hurt, it would be nice to be able to turn to someone with a lot of experience.
Georgia so far this offseason has not spent any time targeting running backs, but when the portal opens back up later this offseason that maybe should change.
