Blackburn Rovers should revive January interest in 28-year-old striker amid relegation revelation: Opinion
Blackburn Rovers are in the market for new additions this summer and Rudy Gestede has already made clear where they want to strengthen.
Blackburn Rovers are in for an important summer transfer window as they look to back manager Valerien Ismael.
After a dismal start, a strong end to the season has built hope for the future under Ismael. However, it is clear he needs to be backed to strengthen the squad and shape it to his style of play.
Head of football operations Rudy Gestede has already made it clear the positions Rovers are keen to strengthen this summer. Speaking back in April, he said they will be entering the ever-challenging market for a new striker ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Blackburn Rovers are sure to have plenty of options on their radar, but a move for winter target Oli McBurnie may well come back on their radar.
New development will pique Blackburn Rovers interests
It was reported prior to the opening of the January transfer window that McBurnie was on the radar of Blackburn Rovers just halfway into his first season over in Spain with UD Las Palmas, who he joined at the end of his Sheffield United contract.
McBurnie ultimately stayed put, but it could be that a UK return awaits this summer.

Reports have revealed that Las Palmas’ relegation from La Liga will see the Scottish striker given the option of leaving. And, Championship clubs have already been linked with Hull City keen and former side Swansea City ‘aware’ of his situation.
Given their winter interest, it would be a real surprise if Rovers had not been alerted to these new developments as well.
Just what Rovers need?
Speaking about their desire to sign a striker, Blackburn Rovers chief Gestede said extra ‘power’ was wanted in attack, and McBurnie can provide just that.
As fans will know, the 28-year-old is a tall and physical striker but he can get about the pitch too. He isn’t limited to standing at the top of the field with his back to goal, which should appeal to Ismael and co.
McBurnie’s hold-up play and ability to bring others into the game is one of his best assets though. And, with a record of 44 goals in 125 Championship games, he is a proven goalscorer at the level.
If a move from UD Las Palmas does await, it will be interesting to see just where McBurnie heads. There is every chance he stays, but if playing in La Liga 2 does not appeal to him, Blackburn Rovers must get back amongst the race for his signature.
