Coventry City complete first summer transfer as ‘one of best finishers’ makes switch
Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as Sky Blues striker completes move to League One club
Fabio Tavares has completed his move to Burton Albion, bringing an end to his four year spell at Coventry City.
The 24-year-old spent the second half of the season on loan at the Pirelli Stadium and despite limited game time, largely due to injury, has done enough to secure a one-year contract at the League One club that finished a point and place about the relegation drop zone.
It’s understood that Albion had an option to sign Tavares as part of the loan agreement and City have “agreed to transfer the registration” of the forward, which will come into effect prior to the conclusion of his loan on June 30. No fee is believed to have been involved.

The Portuguese striker made just one start in ten appearances for the Brewers but scored twice as well as providing a vital assist against Cambridge United which led to their survival in the third-tier.

Head Coach Gary Bowyer said: “He’s a wonderful lad with great character. Unfortunately for us, he picked up a hamstring injury against Bristol Rovers that kept him out for a while but when he came back he took his goal against Birmingham really well and set up Dylan Williams’ winner against Cambridge, which was crucial for us.
“He’s one of the best finishers at the football club and I’m really excited to be working with him next season.”
Tavares made just 27 senior appearances in four seasons for Coventry, having signed from Rochdale, and despite looking close to make his breakthrough with a couple of eye-catching cameos, not least against Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley last year, he never managed to establish himself as a regular contributor in the first team.
He made just two appearances for City during the first-half of the campaign but hasn’t featured under Frank Lampard since his arrival in November.
