The EFL rule affecting the future of two Wrexham stars this summer, it could force their exit from Phil Parkinson’s plans

Wrexham are looking forward to the new challenge of Championship football next season.

Whilst Wrexham have played league football for the last two seasons, they will experience some changes in the Championship following promotion from League One.

Key rule changes will affect Wrexham upon moving into the second tier of English football, including international breaks for Phil Parkinson’s side.

One rule in particular that will cause a headache for the Red Dragons is that a 25-man squad must be named, including goalkeepers. The limits of that Wrexham squad is part of the reason why two stars could depart the Racecourse Ground this summer.

Sebastian Revan and Modou Faal no longer U21 players in Wrexham’s squad

Parkinson has admitted Wrexham departures will take place this summer and Jordan Davies and Mark Howard have already said goodbye.

Steven Fletcher announced his Wrexham departure in an emotional farewell to the club and there will be more across the summer.

Sebastian Revan and Modou Faal are among those players in danger of departing the club, whether it is a permanent transfer or loan opportunity.

Both players have been exempt from EFL squads up until now due to being Under 21 years of age; however, that is no longer the case and the duo would have to be registered in the 25-man squad.

How Sebastian Revan and Modou Faal fared this season for Wrexham

The young stars arrived at the club last summer in an attempt to strengthen the Red Dragons before their first season back in League One.

It is fair to say that neither of the players set the world alight during their first campaign but there were also signs that both could be an asset to the club moving forward.

A loan move would be beneficial for Faal in order to gain more first-team experience amid some impressive showings in the EFL trophy where his physicality was a real threat.

Revan was named as Wrexham’s ‘biggest disappointment’ this season however, the former Aston Villa man did prove his worth during a spell in the side in the promotion run-in.

He clearly has the ability to keep his place in Parkinson’s plans, a lot will depend on the transfer activity coming into the club this summer.
