The stunning £10m West Brom double Premier League transfer deal that could kick off bold new era in 2025/26
West Brom are approaching a pivotal summer transfer window as they seek to address their errors and get the club back on the right track.
The Baggies will say farewell to three experienced, high-earning players departing at the end of their contracts and none of the loanees are expected to join permanently. There could be further departures, too, as Albion look ahead to next season’s contract expiries.
All of those leaving will need replacing, and there are gaps to fill as it is, so at least half a dozen new signings can be expected in the coming months. As West Brom don’t have deep pockets, the business done will need to be intelligent if the club is to return to the play-offs next campaign. Any new signings will also need to conform to the vision of the new manager, whoever that may end up being.
West Brom could seal genius £10m Premier League double swoop
Who could Albion sign in the upcoming transfer window, then? Transfer speculation is weirdly quiet despite the clear and obvious need for reinforcements, so we’ll have to get a little inventive to answer that question.
Around £10 million, easily raisable through the likely sale of academy product Tom Fellows, could be enough to kick off a bold new era for the football club. Two potential signings from the Premier League could help propel the Baggies back into form, one of whom wouldn’t cost a penny.
The first top-flight player West Brom could consider is Nottingham Forest’s Harry Toffolo, who has been rather out of sorts at the City Ground this season. The 29-year-old, predominantly a left-back but also capable of playing at left midfield or even centre-back, has had to play third fiddle to Neco Williams and Alex Moreno.
Toffolo signed for Forest in 2022 after two seriously impressive seasons with Huddersfield in the Championship. The 29-year-old was one of the best players in the English second tier in 2021/22, scoring six goals and making seven assists as the Terriers went on a charge to finish third under Carlos Corberan.
But having been defeated in the play-off final at Wembley, Toffolo went on to sign for the team that beat Huddersfield. Forest persuaded the versatile defender with the promise of Premier League football but he’s been merely a squad utility option for his two and a half years at the club to date.
With his contract up this summer and with no sign of a renewal, Toffolo will be available to sign for free. West Brom could swoop in – and they probably should – as Toffolo can compete effectively with Callum Styles in the left-back position. Gianluca Frabotta hasn’t been a success in the position and Toffolo has both the experience and quality to help Albion compete for promotion.
The next potential signing is Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who has recently been linked with Southampton. The 22-year-old has been on loan at Sheffield United this season and is being eyed for a potential permanent move, but Albion could try and compete for his signature.
With Grady Diangana’s imminent exit confirmed and Fellows attracting Premier League interest from the likes of Everton and Brighton & Hove Albion, West Brom need a new direct winger. Rak-Sakyi’s ability to cut in from the right or left and score makes him a perfect fit for the 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formations deployed by many of Albion’s managerial targets.
Rak-Sakyi excelled on loan at Charlton Athletic in League One two years ago, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists in 43 appearances. His pace, dribbling, and finishing translate well to the Championship, as shown on loan at Sheffield United this term, where he has scored seven goals and made two assists in 34 appearances, many of which have been off the bench.
Palace might prefer another loan, but a permanent move could better suit Rak-Sakyi’s need for consistent game time. It’s tricky to determine what fee the Eagles would deem suitable, but, as his loan to Sheffield United cost several million, it may take up to £10 million to sign him permanently.
