Ruud van Nistelrooy shares Wilfred Ndidi boost ahead of Leicester City clash vs Man United
Leicester City will lock horns with Manchester United in the FA Cup on Friday night looking to end their miserable run at Old Trafford.
Leicester City have won once away from home against the Red Devils in 26 years – a 2-1 Premier League victory in May 2021.
Ruud van Nistelrooy didn’t want to draw Man United, seeing his former club as a threat to their chances of progression and preferring a tie against lower league opponents.
The Foxes secured a 6-2 win over QPR in the last round and have since lost three of their next four games in the Premier League.
While Van Nistelrooy’s men don’t head to Old Trafford in the best form, the 48-year-old is willing to experiment, as he said teenagers Jake Evans and Jeremy Monga will be named in the squad against Man United.
It wasn’t the only positive news the Dutchman delivered in his press conference, too, providing an injury update that will please the fans.
Wilfred Ndidi will return to Leicester City squad vs Man United
Wilfred Ndidi suffered a hamstring injury in Leicester’s 2-2 draw against Brighton in December, and only Van Nistelrooy’s second match in charge.
The Nigerian powerhouse has been a huge loss during their downward spiral into the bottom three, missing a total of nine league matches.
Luckily, Ndidi recently returned to training and now, Van Nistelrooy has confirmed he will make the matchday squad against United.
“Wilfred is fine. He’s had a great week of training and will be in the squad tomorrow,” he said via Leicestershire Live.
While that is massive news for Leicester, he did also reveal that there were two or three unnamed players with light injuries and they need to be assessed.
“There are two or three with light injuries who will be assessed,” Van Nistelrooy added.
Ndidi’s incredible statistics
During a time when Mads Hermansen has also been out, returning in the 4-0 loss to Everton, Ndidi has arguably been the bigger loss to Van Nistelrooy.
The aggressive, tough-tackling, and quality midfield force is vital to City winning the engine room battle, as displayed by where he ranks among midfielders across Europe.
The above list of figures are Ndidi’s stats across the past year and it demonstrates how he can rival some of Europe’s best for his defensive metrics.
Hopefully, the return of the 28-year-old can inspire Van Nistelrooy’s men to survival this term.
