Jacksonville Jaguars Pursue Star AFC North Wide Receiver In Bold Free Agency Move
The Jacksonville Jaguars had a disappointing end to their 2023 season after they were eliminated from playoff contention by the Tennessee Titans in the final week of the regular season. Several fans and analysts speculate that the team needs to sign better receivers for the offense to have more success. Now, Jacksonville has been linked to a star receiver from the AFC North, who will likely become a free agent this offseason.
According to a report by Pro Football Focus, the Jaguars should pursue Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins this offseason. Higgins has proven that he can be a solid wide receiver in this league, and possibly become a wide receiver one. Higgins was able to catch 57.6% of his contested targets last season, which could pair well with current Jaguars receiver Calvin Ridley.
Why The Jacksonville Jaguars Make Sense
While Higgins did not play in every game this season due to injuries, he was still able to amount to 656 receiving yards and five touchdowns. In his previous two seasons with the Bengals, the receiver was able to go for over 1,000 yards, proving that he can be an elite target for his quarterback Joe Burrow. However, with his contract expiring this year, rumor has it that he will be on a different squad by the 2024 season, and the Jaguars have emerged as the early favorite
Jacksonville amounted to 4,377 receiving yards this season, with Ridley leading the pack with 1,016 yards. Having a receiver like Higgins can almost double what Ridley was able to do, which could make for a dangerous passing attack for the Jaguars offense. With other young receivers like Christian Kirk and Zay Jones, this receiving corps could become one of the most dangerous in the NFL if they sign Higgins.
Will Higgins Sign With Another Team?
While other teams could try to pursue Higgins like the Los Angeles Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs, and other receiver-needy squads, the Jaguars are the favorites to land the Bengals receiver. Do you think Higgins will sign with Jacksonville this offseason, will he remain in Cincinnati, or will he be playing elsewhere in 2024?
