Elliott: ‘Proud to be Inducted’

The winger becomes the 12th inductee into the esteemed list first formed in 2018, joining Ian Ashbee, Nick Barmby, Billy Bly, Raich Carter, Chris Chilton, Andy Davidson, Andy Dawson, Garreth Roberts, Pete Skipper, Ken Wagstaff and Dean Windass in the pantheon of all-time Hull City greats.

Inducted at our New Year’s Day match against Middlesbrough by Hull-born great and former defender Frank Banks, Elliott is delighted to be immortalised into the famous list amongst City legends.

“I am extremely proud. Hull City was really the pinnacle of my career,” said Elliott. “I had a good career up to the time when I came to Hull through Glentoran and Motherwell, but my time at Hull City for me, both on and off the pitch for my family, was probably the greatest time in my football career and it is a time that I will never forget.

“Right from day one, the supporters really took me to their hearts and it was mutual as well. I had a wonderful time in the city, both on and off the pitch. I love the people to this day and it was just an amazing time. It is a really proud moment for me to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, and it’s one thing that I can add to the list of successes I had at Hull City.”

Netting 68 times in 211 outings, Elliott won the club’s Player of the Year award twice, finishing top scorer twice and playing a key role in the double promotion under Peter Taylor between 2003 and 2005.

Staying with the club until the early months of 2008, Elliott received a standing ovation from over 21,000 people at the MKM Stadium.

Wanting to thank the supporters for his time at club, Elliott said: “It means everything to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The reality is, it is a privilege to be in alongside the great names that are already in there. For me, it wasn’t just about the success on the pitch, it was about the people of the city.

“I was part of a church there and I reached out to the people in the local area to try and help them in practical ways. Myself and my family really felt that Hull City was our home and we’ve always had a special affiliation from the people. Even now, I get texts coming through from people that you knew from the city and I’ve always kept close contact with them.

“The way the supporters welcomed me, I can honestly say success brings this, but I never really heard anything negative said about me during the whole time I was there. People really embraced me. They are just lovely, lovely people. Lovely city, a lovely club, and I’m glad to see that it’s been on to have relative success even after I left.”
