See if you agree with our football reporter Stephen Thirkill’s League One team of the season – including players from Charlton Athletic, Reading, Wycombe Wanderers, Wrexham and Barnsley
It was a tough selection process with many players standing out around the league for many different reasons.

It can of course only ever be a subjective choice with 100 people no doubt selecting 100 different teams and many different formations.
But I have narrowed it down and come up with this starting XI, based on a 4-2-3-1 formation. And it’s a team I think would be able to do the business in the Championship.

Oxford United boss hails former Huddersfield Town and Barnsley FC star as his best ever January signing
The 29-year-old was brought to British shores by Barnsley and quickly became a key figure for the Reds.
Following Barnsley’s relegation to League One in 2022, he crossed a Yorkshire rivalry divide to link up with Huddersfield.
The Poland-capped figure was a mainstay in the Terriers backline, but was unable to prevent the club slipping into the third tier two years after Barnsley did.
‘My plan’ – Bradford City loan man to be handed chance with parent club next season as club chief shares update
Barnsley sporting director Mladen Sormaz has said Jack Shepherd will be part of their plans for next season when he returns from Bradford City.
Barnsley loaned the defender to the Bantams last summer. He has since become a key player for the League Two side and has caught the eye.
Shepherd, 23, is due to return to Oakwell for pre-season ahead of the next campaign. He has made 38 league appearances since his switch to Valley Parade and has chipped in with two goals.
Sormaz has shared this update regarding the player’s future in South Yorkshire ahead of the upcoming transfer window, as per a report by The Yorkshire Post: “That would be my plan (to return). He has done brilliantly.
“One of the things Conor (Hourihane) asked me as we were having a coffee was ‘what elements of the job do you like?’ and that might be my favourite. Because I didn’t sign him, but saw something in pre-season and thought he is probably not going to be quite in the first team, but this kid has got a chance. And what he has gone and done is absolutely amazing. We are really proud of him and looking forward to having him back.”

The Tykes landed him as one for the future. He caught their eye playing in non-league for Pontefract Colleries
