Ruud van Nistelrooy could make first January sale as Championship side target out of favour Leicester City ace
Leicester City are anticipating a busy January transfer window as they aim to pull away from relegation danger in the Premier League.
The winter window is a perfect time for relegation-threatened clubs to dip into the transfer market and sign some quality players.
Ruud van Nistelrooy is mainly focused on addressing his Leicester backline, which has conceded a joint-high of 42 goals this term.
Leicester have eyed transfers for several defenders, including Ben Godfrey, who is set to leave Atalanta and many others.
Potential incomings have dominated the headlines after just two days of the transfer window however, the Leicester manager could quickly make his first sale.
Sheffield United want Leicester midfielder Hamza Choudhury
An important part of strengthening a squad is allowing fringe players to leave first.
For instance, Odsonne Edouard could return to Crystal Palace after his failed loan spell at the King Power Stadium while midfielder Hamza Choudhury is attracting interest.
According to The Star, Championship title chasers Sheffield United have placed Choudhury on their list of transfer targets this month.
Choudhury, who recently changed his nationality to Bangladesh, has been on the fringes of the action this season.
The 27-year-old has only started once in the Premier League, with Choudhury producing a woeful display against Newcastle in a 4-0 defeat.
It’s become clear that, while the defensive midfielder has been a great servant to the club, this is perhaps the best time for the academy graduate to move on and get his career trending in an upward direction once more.
Choudhury worked under Chris Wilder at Watford
It isn’t just this season where the former England under-21 international has been on the periphery of the action, with Choudhury previously going on loan to Watford.
Then-manager Brendan Rodgers sent the midfielder to Vicarage Road in the 2022/23 campaign as he wasn’t able to break into his star-studded Premier League lineup.
Choudhury, who was managed by Chris Wilder from March to May 2023, excelled in the Championship at the Hornets as he appeared 36 times in the second tier.
Now, in Wilder’s hunt for promotion back to the Premier League, the veteran boss could reunite with Choudhury at Bramall Lane.
The Englishman wants to solidify his midfield and the out-of-favour Leicester star could be exactly the combative presence they need.
