Double Swedish Championship gold medalist ready for Skellefteå
Skellefteå AIK has finalized a new player. Forward Victor Stjernborg was presented on Tuesday.
He won Swedish Championship gold with Växjö in both 2021 and 2023, now the 21-year-old is moving from Småland and has signed a two-year contract with Skellefteå.
– This feels like a very good step for me. I’m curious about Skellefteå and everything felt exciting when they presented their plan, he says in a press release.
It took him seven years and over 200 SHL matches in Växjö, and during that time Stjernborg has also managed to be a team captain in the JVM.
– I feel like it’s time for something new. It’s going to be a big change, but it’s exactly what I need right now to develop further. I like to play both offensively and defensively. I’ve mostly played on the wing, but if necessary, I’m happy to jump in as a center, he says.
The two years in Skellefteå AIK gave him a Swedish championship gold medal and a real boost to his career.
But two years in Västerbotten was enough.
Now Anton Heikkinen is moving south for a game with a rival club in the SHL.
– I am very grateful for everything they have done for me, says the Nässjö guy.
This season, Victor Stjernborg accounted for 9 points in 37 games in the regular season.
– Victor is a young player who, despite his age, has gained a lot of experience and won in successful environments. We believe he can benefit from a change of environment and look forward to helping him take the next step and become an important factor across the board, says Skellefteå’s general manager Erik Forssell.
The forward stays in Skellefteå
