Sheffield Wednesday reject big Manchester City bid for talented attacker – left with tough decision

Sheffield Wednesday have turned down a seven-figure offer from Manchester City for teenager Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri, as per The Star.

Sheffield Wednesday are set for another season in the Championship with a mid-table finish awaiting. SWFC sit in 14th, 11 points above the bottom three and nine away from the play-offs.

It has been another turbulent year at Hillsborough and uncertainty lays ahead with Danny Rohl’s future up in the air and the next Dejphon Chansiri plot twist only ever a matter of time away. However, the Owls have progressed after just about surviving last year.

There has been a new crop of exciting young players emerging too, with 15-year-old Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri’s stunning academy form catching the eye.

Now, according to The Star, Sheffield Wednesday are fending off high-profile interest in the teenage prodigy.

They report that the Championship club have rejected a bid from Manchester City for young striker Cadamarteri. The specific fee is not cited, but the offer was a seven-figure one, it is said.

Cadamarteri has been in fine form for the U18s despite playing against prospects who are far older but given his age, he can not yet sign scholarship terms and can not sign a professional contract until he turns 17, leaving SWFC susceptible to interest from elsewhere.

Cadamarteris on the rise

Sheffield Wednesday fans will know that they have two fine attacking prospects on their hands in the form of both Bailey and Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri.

The latter will be eager to follow in his older brother’s footsteps having made his senior breakthrough at Hillsborough last season amid fine form for the academy sides. He has spent this year on loan at Lincoln City and while his campaign was cut short by injury, it proved a valuable stint for Cadamarteri.

Time will tell if Caelan-Kole stays to follow in Bailey’s footsteps in making his breakthrough with SWFC but with high profile clubs like Manchester City keen, the Owls might have a fight on their hands.

A big summer ahead

The end of the season will bring clarity over Rohl’s Sheffield Wednesday future but as it stands, there is a growing feeling that the German will be leaving for pastures new. The constant uncertainty surrounding the club’s ownership make it a tough environment to work in and a talented coach like Rohl is not short of admirers.

Only then can the Owls truly plan for next season with some certainty but until then, SWFC will be looking to see out the campaign on a high.

Off the back of Saturday’s home loss to Oxford United, Wednesday face Stoke City next Friday. They then face Middlesbrough, Portsmouth and Watford to end the season.

Oxford United boss comments on Sheffield Wednesday attitude and makes referee claim

Oxford United boss Gary Rowett celebrated a win over Sheffield Wednesday that took his side closer to Championship survival on Saturday.

Sam Long’s late winner earned all three points for the Us and secured wins over both Sheffield clubs inside three matches in a week that has taken them six points clear of the bottom three. Wednesday, on the other hand, are left wondering where things go from here with four matches of the season remaining.

The Owls have now picked up only two points from a possible last 15, with manager Danny Röhl admitting the strains of the season and lack of something to aim for is having an impact on their fortunes. It’s been a difficult second half to the season for Wednesday – and home form that has now seen them lose five on the spin at S6 has been dire throughout.

On the Owls’ midtable placing and the difficulties that come with safety heading into the final matches of a campaign, Rowett said: “It is difficult but it can sometimes frees you up and make you more relaxed, it can make you feel like you’ve got nothing to lose. It can make you a bit freer on the ball. Sometimes what you might find, though, is when the chips and down in a game, have you got the little bit of desire to go and do it.
