Sheffield Wednesday vs Hull City prediction: The72

‘A big distraction’ – Sheffield Wednesday vs Hull City prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Sheffield Wednesday vs Hull City prediction ahead of the Championship clash on Saturday.

Sheffield Wednesday take on Hull City this weekend in their upcoming Championship clash at Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday head into the game on the back of their 1-1 draw away at Cardiff City last time out. Defender Michael Ihiekwe got SWFC’s goal against the Bluebirds.

Danny Rohl’s side are currently sat in 12th place in the table. They are five points off the play-offs with seven fixtures left to play this season.

The Owls turned to their boss back in October 2023. He has since done an impressive job in South Yorkshire and they will do well to keep hold of him in the future.

As for Hull City, they face a battle to preserve their second tier status. They are 21st and are only above the drop zone on goal difference.

The Tigers made the surprise decision to sack Liam Rosenior last year and that has come back to haunt them. The East Yorkshire outfit were beaten 1-0 at home by Luton Town last time out.

Ruben Selles was appointed as their manager this past winter to replace Tim Walter. He caught their eye in League One with Reading.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Harry Mail

“Sheffield Wednesday still have an outside chance of getting into the play-offs but would need to hit some serious form in the latter weeks of the season. SWFC have been poor at home this season and that has hurt their top six hopes.

“Hull City will be desperate for a result at Hillsborough. HCAFC are nervously looking over their shoulder towards the drop zone.

“This is a game that will probably suit the Tigers as they are better when they can sit back and catch teams on the break. They have won away at the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Millwall, Sheffield United and Sunderland since Ruben Selles took over, as well as drawing at Bristol City and West Brom.

“I fancy the visitors to get something again on their travels this weekend but think it will only be a draw in the end.”

Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Hull City

James Ray

“Sheffield Wednesday are just about clinging onto their play-off hopes but you can’t help but feel the off-pitch issues are going to be a big distraction.

“I think Danny Rohl is a great manager and will be doing all he can to keep his players focused, but it is no doubt something that will have been playing on the minds of all at the club over this week and that will have hindered preparations.

“Hull City will be a good test too. The Tigers have it all to play for in the survival fight and they’ve fought their way to some valuable results in recent times, even if they’ve been a bit inconsistent.

“It’s tough to call this, but I see this ending level. Don’t be surprised if Hull take all three points though.”

Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Hull City
