The Texas Tech Red Raiders are hard at work preparing for the Liberty Bowl later this month as they’re set to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks.
But the transfer portal and recruiting still have their place as the program continues to build for the future, and on Tuesday, big news came for the defensive side of the ball.
UTEP Miners defensive back Amier Boyd-Matthews committed to the Red Raiders for 2025 per multiple reports, first reported by RedRaiderSports.com.
The 6-1, 180-pounder received interest in the portal from several Power Four schools including Wake Forest, Houston and Colorado.
The Phoenix, Arizona, native was a three-star recruit per 247Sports coming out of Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix and had offers from Nevada and Northern Illinois before committing to UTEP for the 2022 cycle.
Boyd-Matthews leaves a UTEP program that went 3-9 this season as he recorded 16 tackles, three pass breakups, two interceptions and a fumble recovery across nine games.
The Red Raiders are making several changes across the defensive side of the ball, and replaced former defensive coordinator, Tim DeRuyter, with Shiel Wood from the Houston Cougars.
