Brentford are looking to progress into the semi-final of the Carabao Cup for the first time since the 2020/21 season, as they prepare to make the trip to Newcastle on Wednesday.
The Bees come off a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge – a game in which they were 2-0 down after 80 minutes, before Bryan Mbuemo scored a late consolation goal in the 90th minute. They play against a Newcastle United side who won 4-0 against Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s Leicester on Saturday afternoon, with goals coming from Jacob Murphy, Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak.
Brentford could be without up to five players for the game on Wednesday night, as could Newcastle.
Brentford injury news
The Bees could be without Mathias Jensen who is dealing with a hamstring problem which has kept him out for several weeks.
Thomas Frank believes that Jensen can return before the new year, but it looks likely that Wednesday night will come too soon for him.
Frank said: “Jensen, unfortunately, is a couple more weeks until he is ready, so that is a bit of a blow.”
Josh Dasilva is also expected to miss the game against Newcastle as he is recovering from a knee injury, alongside Rico Henry who has a similar issue. Frank said: “Josh (Dasilva) is further down the line. Rico (Henry) is progressing, but it’s still not like he will play next week.”
