And head coach Mark Hughes confirmed that it was unlikely to be a short-term matter.
“It looks like he’s pulled it,” Hughes told the News & Star.
“If he has pinged it, it means maybe four to six weeks.”
The blow will rule the former Birmingham City man out of a significant spell of Carlisle’s League Two survival battle.
