‘Well done Newcastle’ – Simon Jordan claims Eddie Howe has signed a ‘stinker’
Simon Jordan believes Newcastle United have signed a ‘stinker’ as the transfer window draws to a close on deadline day.
It’s proving to be an eventful deadline day for Newcastle United, and it’s all centring on the future of strikers.
Alexander Isak is heading to Liverpool after Newcastle finally relented and accepted a bid worth £125m.
Thankfully, Newcastle have managed to secure a replacement as they have secured a breakthrough to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford, even if he is costing £55m.
The news that William Osula could join Eintracht Frankfurt for £30m is the most shocking development of all, but inconsequential compared to the other two.
Only Isak and Erling Haaland had a better non-penalty goal rate per 90 minutes last season, but Simon Jordan still believes he is a ‘stinker.’

Simon Jordan claims Newcastle Untied have signed a ‘stinker’ in Yoane Wissa
Speaking on TalkSport on deadline day, Jordan was asked if players being able to stop playing for their clubs to force through a move annoyed him.
After Isak cut himself out of Eddie Howe’s squad after initially being denied a transfer, Wissa did the same thing at Brentford, and even released a statement expressing his desire to leave.
Jordan isn’t a fan of that attitude and has questioned why Newcastle would sign a player in Wissa who has done to his club what Isak has done to them.
“One stinker goes out, one stinker goes in,” he said, in relation to the players’ conduct rather than their ability.
“Well done Newcastle, you’ve got one coming in doing the same thing to Brentford that you were complaining about happening to you. Out goes one stinker, in comes another one.
The fact of the matter is, who won and who lost? Brentford got £55m for a player who is not worth £55m.
“So whilst the player is sat there and protesting about the unfairness of how he had some fictitious gentleman’s agreement, the club played their cards to the point that they got £55m.”
Newcastle will just have to hope Wissa, or any other of their players, tries the same trick after eventually allowing Isak to get his way.
Emmanuel Petit explains the difference between footballers today and those of his generation
Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit was sat alongside Jordan in the TalkSport studio and lamented how contracts mean nothing any more.
The Frenchman also explained how he never went on strike in his career, even when he wanted to leave Barcelona.
“Contracts don’t mean anything any more,” he said. “You can do whatever you want with the paper. Even if you sign the paper, it doesn’t matter. It’s only business, it’s only money.
“I come from a different generation, so even when I came back to England when I left Barcelona. I signed a four-year deal with Barcelona and after a couple of months, I knew I was making a mistake.
“But I didn’t go on strike. I just had a nice and honest discussion with the club. For both interests, it has to be a win-win situation and that’s why we made an agreement and everybody was shaking hands at the end.
“They [players today] know it doesn’t matter if they sign seven-year contracts, they know that it can be torn paper.”
