Newcastle are expected to submit a bid for Porto striker Samu Aghehowa imminently, journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed.
The Magpies are reportedly ready to step up their interest in the £80m-rated Spain international as they look to bring several reinforcements to Eddie Howe’s squad before the transfer deadline on September 1.

While a deal for former AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw has now been officially confirmed, Aston Villa ace Jacob Ramsey’s arrival is set to follow after clubs reached an agreement over a £40m deal.
Newcastle are also positioning themselves to land Brentford striker Yoane Wissa – according to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano, they aim to secure the Congolese international ‘as soon as possible’, having received the green light from the 28-year-old over a move.
Porto Braced for Samu Aghehowa Offer
According to O’Rourke, Porto are bracing themselves for Newcastle’s offer for Aghehowa and fear they could lose their star striker before the closure of the transfer window.
Newcastle are believed to have identified the 21-year-old as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak, after learning the Sweden international no longer wants to play for the club.
Liverpool remain firm favourites to land Isak before the deadline – he is not expected to feature in Howe’s squad again and has his sights set on a move to Anfield.
If Newcastle are able to seal a deal for Aghehowa, the likelihood of Isak’s departure would only increase, although the Magpies have been unwilling to drop their £150m asking price so far.
They rejected Liverpool’s opening offer of £110m and remain in a strong negotiating position, with Isak under contract for the next three seasons.
GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Aghehowa scored 29 goals in 46 appearances for Porto last season.
Aghehowa was expected to move to the Premier League last summer – his proposed £35m move from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea collapsed at the last minute, and he ended up joining Porto on a five-year deal instead.
The ‘elite’ Spain international enjoyed a strong debut season in Portugal, finishing as the league’s joint-second top goalscorer with 19 goals, trailing only newest Arsenal signing Viktor Gyokeres, who bagged 39.

He’s perfect for Eze: Spurs to make huge bid for “sensational” £42m sta
Over the last couple of months, Tottenham Hotspur have demonstrated how much of a cutthroat industry professional football can be – regardless of any level of success achieved.
Ange Postecoglou led the Lilywhites to Europa League glory back in May, but it wasn’t enough to maintain his job in North London as Daniel Levy handed him his marching orders.
The 17th-placed Premier League finish was the underlying reasoning behind his dismissal, handing the responsibility to Thomas Frank to build on the recent European triumph.
Such a decision could prove to be a risk in the months ahead, breaking the continuity that would’ve been in place had the Aussie remained in the role.
However, the board are handing the Dane the tools for added success during his tenure, looking to inject further quality into one area of the pitch before the September 1st deadline.
Tottenham’s attempt to land a new midfielder this summer
Despite scoring 64 times in the Premier League last season – the seventh-highest tally of any side – Frank has made a beeline to improve the options available to him in forward areas.
Mohammed Kudus has already completed a £55m move, but it hasn’t stopped the Lilywhites from pursuing a move for other targets such as Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.
The 27-year-old has been a leading talent in the Premier League as of late, notching 16 goal contributions last season – which has seen Spurs prepare an opening offer for his services.
However, attention is also being focused on the midfield department, leading to reports from media in Spain that Conor Gallagher has once again appeared on their radar.
The article states that Frank’s side are one of various English outfits preparing offers to sign the Atlético Madrid star, with a €50m (£42m) price tag currently being mooted.
It’s also been confirmed that the 25-year-old would be keen on a return to England, after just one year in LaLiga following his £34m departure from boyhood outfit, Chelsea.
Why Spurs’ £42m target would be perfect for Eze
A deal to sign Eze between now and the end of the window would signal real intent from Spurs owner Levy – splashing the cash and subsequently landing a star who can take the side up a gear.
However, the board are handing the Dane the tools for added success during his tenure, looking to inject further quality into one area of the pitch before the September 1st deadline.
