Doug King sends letter to Coventry City season ticket holders with 'tactical know-how' point - CoventryLive

Huge backlash as Doug King urged to make U-turn after ‘horrific’ Coventry City ticket prices revealed

Coventry City ticket news from CoventryLive as fans react angrily to the club’s new matchday ticket prices that will see fans pay £45 for some high profile local derbies

Doug King has received a huge backlash from Coventry City fans after the club have announced their latest prices for matchday tickets at the CBS Arena.

The Sky Blues have sold a record 23,800 season tickets this year as the club’s fanbase continues to go from strength to strength amid much excitement under Frank Lampard and the owner’s ambition for promotion back to the Premier League.

That’s an £8 increase on last season’s equivalent Cat A ticket for an adult. Last year’s cheapest concession price for a Cat A game was £32 and that has also increased by £8 to £40 for the Cat A+ matches.

This year’s Cat A (the second level of pricing) prices see just a £1 increase from £37 for adults to £38 and from £32 for concessions to £33.

However, among the hardest hit appears to be Under-18s, who will pay £3 more (£28 for a Cat A match) and JSB Under-14s who will pay £8 more, going from £15 to £23 for a Cat A game but a whopping £30 for a Cat A+ fixture – effectively a 50 percent increase.

The club have also introduced a second new price category for Cat D games at the lower end of the spectrum, presumably for the least popular or lower profile matches. An adult ticket in Cat C (the lowest price band last year) cost £24. The lowest band ticket now costs £20. Tickets for U-18s and U-14s are both £5 cheaper for a Cat D match.

It’s fair to say that the new pricing structure hasn’t gone down too well with supporters. Here’s what they have been saying:

How Coventry City's owner Doug King created a net worth of $400m

Callum Moseley: £45? Lads I’m sorry but that’s horrific pricing. genuinely shocking. Football is becoming way too expensive nowadays – no wonder so many are going non league these days.

Martin: These prices are too much for families to pay. I would urge that the owner urgently rethinks this tiering system and sets a price for all games.

Twist ‘n’ Shout: Jesus Christ glad I fell in love with the club in 2002 I’d have been priced out of doing so these days.

Aaron: £45 to watch Ellis Simms plod about a football pitch?

Ben: Fleecing fans. Great idea. Can’t wait to be charged through nose for away games now. Thanks.

Neil Littewood: Vile pricing. We have lambasted other clubs doing this over the years, pricing the average fan out of the game. The fans will feel this when we go away too as clubs will retaliate. Please reconsider this.

Nick Rogers: Shocking pricing. Fans that travel away will be treated with reciprocal outrageous pricing.

Matt: Doug strikes again. Horrific.

Buswell: £45 is disgusting prices at this level.
