EXCLUSIVE: COLCHESTER UNITED COMMUNTIY FOUNDATION LAUNCH WOMEN’S WALKING FOOTBALL SESSION
Last Monday, Colchester United Community Foundation (CUCF) proudly launched its first-ever Women’s Walking Football session at the JobServe Community Stadium, marking an exciting step in making football more accessible to local women of all ages and abilities.
Walking Football is a slower version of the beautiful game that allows people to play football for longer. It is a great way to get outside and exercise, making friends along the way. With no running, jogging or heading and physical contact kept to a minimum, it is a fun and safe way for players to stay or get back into football.
One of the new players, Jade (36), shared her thoughts after attending: “I really enjoyed the session. I was worried before attending but it is really good fun, I’ll definitely be back.”
Colchester United Women’s Team player and CUCF Women’s & Girls Development Officer, Niamh Gamble, was also excited by the turnout: “It is brilliant to see women’s football becoming more accessible to all ages. I’m proud that we’ve launched this session and can’t wait to see how it grows over the next few weeks.”

The U’s have invested directly into significant summer work on their JobServe Community Stadium pitch over recent weeks, after the surface proved particularly problematic in the 2024/25 season, particularly in the final months of the campaign.
Colchester announced last month that they had agreed a deal with Ipswich Town which will see the Suffolk club’s under-21 and newly-promoted women’s first team play home games at the venue, across the 2025/26 and 2026/27 seasons.
