Bournemouth submit bid for £25 million-rated Chelsea player

Bournemouth splash £25 million on new signing

AFC Bournemouth have completed the signing of Đorđe Petrović, from Chelsea for a reported fee of £25 million.

The Cherries have confirmed that the 25-year-old Serbian international has signed a five-year contract at the club, keeping him on the south coast until the end of the 2029/30 season.

The fee will see Chelsea make a hefty profit on the shotstopper, having signed him in 2023 for a reported fee of £12.5 million.

He made 31 appearances for Chelsea before spending the end of last season on loan with Ligue 1 club Strasbourg where he was named as the club’s player of the season.

Petrović is expected to be the Cherries number 1 going into the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

Neto has returned from his loan spell with Arsenal, whilst Mark Travers has been sold to Everton for a reported £4 million fee.

“I’m really happy to be here. I came to Bournemouth because I want to grow and I want to play at the best level. Together with this club, with these facilities, I think we can achieve it. I want to help the team get the results, improve every day and be a better player.”

Also speaking to afcb.co.uk, AFC Bournemouth’s President of Football Operations Tiago Pinto said…

“I’m really pleased to bring Đorđe to the club. The opportunity to sign a player of his calibre in the market was one we had to take, particularly given how vital the position of a goalkeeper is.

“We have been looking for the right talent to invest in within this area of the pitch and Đorđe has very impressive qualities, as well as a lot of experience for someone who is still young. We are excited that he is the one coming to join our project and look forward to working with him.”

It’s a bold move for a club like us to spend that much on a keeper. The recruitment team have more than earnt some trust in their judgement. Looking forward to seeing him in action.

Personally, I’m pretty happy with this signing. I think he has done well in the last two seasons. He was very, very good for Strasbourg last season. Chelsea fans seem pretty agitated that they have let Petrovic go, and my feeling is that he may be better than Kepa.

£25 million is a lot of money, but you have to spend to survive in the Prem, especially in such an important position. – To join the conversation, please click here.
